Took to the field today with a co-worker of mine. We walked, walked, and walked some fields. Came across a large pile of deer hair in one area, some bow hunter got lucky. Always wanted to hunt this piece of land with a bow but its kinda hard due to it being a pheasant stocked area that gets loaded up three times a week.
Doesn't look like it rattles those deer to much, due to it proximty to a major roadway, and town. I'm sure they are used to the sound, just don't want to get hit by shot while waiting for my deer. Maybe an option at the end of pheasant season.
Anyway back to walking, and walking, and chatting. We came around a coner and up pops a bird which at first we thought was a pheasant, pull the safety off and I say, "Don't fire, hawk, hawk." The hawk jump up and pounded a dove out of mid flight right in front of us. We jump the doves, and the hawk who was sitting in ambush pounced on one of the doves leaving a ball of feathers in mid-flight. Pretty cool to see very close up and personal. Hawk carried off his dinner to an awaiting tree branch and had a dove sandwich. Sun began to get a little lower in the sky, and a few other bird chasers showed up and heard one shot in the distance. But we went without a shot today, and got a little exercise.
A few friends did get a couple today in Northampton they had the pooches. We will have the muts tomorrow. Thumbsup It should be more shooting, and more of a report tomorrow with pic's.
