I'll probably catch hell for this one, funny how things work out..... I was in my stand by 6am. I started rattling and grunting at about 715. A few minutes later a doe walked out about 100 yards to my right. She disappeared into the bushes. less than a minute later a buck came sniffing her on the same trail she was just on. The doe came out of the bushes, the buck followed. After a few minutes of following her around, the buck mounted her for 3-4 seconds. Then she ran back in the bushes and of course he followed. A couple minutes later she ran out and came straight to my stand. She was eating maple leaves directly below me. Not surprisingly, he wasn't far behind her. He was only a 4 pointer. I had no intention of taking him. They were both about 15 yards off, directly behind me. I heard one run off, I assumed it was the buck (they are usually the first to run off if something doesn't seem right). I slowly stood up and turned around so I could get a shot around the tree. When I got turned around I had a perfect shot as he was eating. I took the shot thinking it was the doe..... when the arrow hit, he looked up at me.Bash1 I waited about 10 minutes and then went to go get him. He piled up after running about 50 yards. Turns out he was a good deer to take.... he was old, his teeth were ground down to nothing, his back leg was broken a couple years ago and still sticking out of the skin... the bone was rounded off from being walked on over the years and his rack wasn't going to get any bigger. I checked him in at R+R and he weighed 121.1 lbs. Would this be considered a nontypical??Beerchug

finally took a afternoon off from chasing birds, dog needed a rest. Decided to take to the wood in search of the beast. Got into my stand at around 2:30. The wind was howling pretty good all afternoon. at about 3:30 had three does come by within 15 yards, decided not to fill that tag i'll save that one for the smokepole. At about 4:45 had a pretty decent spike come in to about 30 yards but he had another buck with him that hung up about 75 yards, I knew the second one was bigger so i let the little guy walk. At about 5:00 I decided it was time for the grunt call and rattle bag. About 5 minutes after the second calling sequence i spot movement on the ridge above me maybe 100 yards out. let out a couple more grunts and here he comes on a leash.at about 30 yards he decides to turn around and head back to where he came from,NOT ON MY WATCH, 33 yards quartering away let thunderhead fly. watched as the lumenok disappeared just behind the front shoulder. double lung goodnight lights out see ya on the dinner table!! had to track him for a whole fifteen yards.all in all a pretty nice night to be out. now to fill tag number 2. good luck to everyone out there. Happy halloween. would have posted earlier but had major computer problems.
