i myself, have been pheasant hunting for quite a few years now, its a great way to spend time with my uncle jerry, and this spring, i saw a pheasant in my front yard, i live about a mile or 2 away from the william covey management area in belchertown, it obviously was a left over, and i dont know if it survived....................my dad told me that years and years ago it was illegal to hunt hens? i dont know if thats exactly true, but i think that if it was reinstated, the population of pheasants in massachusetts could easily boom and their could be alot more running around this state, if they can live in manchuria im pretty sure they could live here! i thought this might be cool discussion piece, got anything to add? agree with? or disagree with? id love to hearSmile1

Sure was a no no to shoot hens back when.As far as a population of them i don't believe with all the foxes yotes and birds of pry and our harsh winters this would ever happen. my 2 cents

The farm raised birds are not the brightest animals either. I once saw feathers from a pheasant that must have gotten grabbed by a fox or coyote. It apparently didnt fly away! The feathers were all together on the ground, it wasnt shot out of the air, thats for sure.

Even though they may live through the hunting season and winter, they wont last long enough to get a wild population started. I would love to see more upland game birds in Mass, I don't have a hunting dog and the guys that do get all the birds every year while I walk around hearing the shots go off.

I would love to see them wild and in larger numbers, but not counting on it anytime in the near future.

i havent hunted in a few years, i never enjoyed going out to the popular places where there are hundreds of people i.e Barre Falls. i would aklways go out to places that and walk around and hope for some grouse. i would also try to get to some lesser known spots where they stock so that way i would get shot. lol. i also agree that it would be amazing to have a thriveing pheasent population but again i dont think it will ever truly happen. i have infact seen pheasents with chicks running across the street on more than one occasion so who knows! i guess only time will tell.

I used to live by fairview rod and gun and I would love to see pheasants running down the middle of the road on my way to work when there were 10 trucks parked at the powerlines.
