I just got my bear permit a few weeks ago and the season starts tomorrow. Any tips on bear hunting...never done it before. All I know is I've got my eyes on a big one. It's shown it black butt twice to me now. Any input or tips would be helpful!!!

i didnt get one in maine. best tip i can give you is they are much much harder to hunt than deer. there noses are much stronger and they are much smarter. play your wind. Be very still they are big turkeys with a great nose. be patient. And make sure to make a good shot. They can take a rifle in the shoulder very well. good luck. my parents just had a bear run through the back yard. pretty cool. might be the same one your going after. good luck.

Yeah like JR said scent is key. Hunt Food sources early in the morning or late at night, corn or berry bushes, and for a big animal they move a lot quieter in the woods then you would think

Trophy, I think it is the same one. A couple other people have seen one on your parents' street.

Check the hardwoods for beech nuts. They are not hitting the corn this year. This season will be like the last. Find the nut crop and you will find bear sign. Or check the apple orchards...look for where they are climbing the trees!

Good Luck

Thanks for the help guys. Saw one the day before the season, it was late in the day and it was running around in a field looking like it was having fun. Then it climbed up on a round bale and started shredding it. Haven't seen it since. Although a guy approached us today when we were out building a barn and said he saw a bear running through his backyard into our property. he wanted to know if it was ok to try to track him down. Pretty funny it was about 8am and he had sneakers, tank top, and shorts on. I let him go lookin, but he came out of the woods an hour later as one big misquito bite!

Its way to warm to bear hunt. The bear won't move much until after dark when it cools down. Your best bet right now with the warm weather is to head out early in the morning and catch them going to a water source near food!

The bear are way to spread out this year. Alot of feed in the woods. I think it will be the same for the deer. Lets hope for some snow. I have always wanted to bowhunt whitetails with snow on the ground during bowseason!!!

no luck here. a guy got a small one in the cornfields across the street from where I hunt, but none of the fields have been hit. The farmer saw another one cross the road a week and a half ago so they are around. hopefully ill get lucky tomorrow and it will wander by me.
