Reload and I headed out for a mushroom forage today with his off site friend. We were in search of the delectable black trumpet. We had a good day gathering approximately 5 lbs of this tasty and sought after fungi.
This is a close up shot of a nice pile of trumpets:

We don't have a regular group of foragers and when I go picking, I go picking, not exploring. I love to share my knowledge with others. Did you notice that the only thing that I used WHITE OUT for was my white hat to cover up my receeding hair line.Laughing1Laughing1Laughing1

Hey
I think I recognize the background....I didn't know picking was good there.....I'm not one to start rumors, but did you see Mike's "offsite friend"....I mean how does he explain this to his lovely wife ??....." Oh by the way dear, I'm going off into the woods tomorrow all day with a beautiful single brunette, but don't worry we'll just be picking mushrooms".....it wouldn't work for me, he must have one hell of an understanding wife.....

Hey Capt.
Summer shore and pier fishing slows down in July and early August, but it's going to explode any day soon !
Caught a 24 " Flounder last week from the Jetty at Fort Fisher, and that same day laid into a 63 inch spinner shark....I brought him up onto the rocks and quickly decided not to retrieve my rig, he had evil in his eyes.....so I cut the line, and pushed him in with the butt of my fishing rod but not before he grabbed it and took a chunk out of the foam heel of the rod.....all the time I'm thinking, "that could have been my hand if I had tried to get the rig"......and the moral of the story is: a $3.00 rig is not worth the loss of a hand.....best decision I made that day !

Hey Capt. Shay....
Mike sent me a bunch of those black trumpets....talk about a gift from the Gods (I meant the Real God, not you and Mike)!!! I didn't think I'd get to taste them again soon...they're the best ever !! I think you know that Mike has shared with you a location that is off the charts, I was always appreciative of being able to go there and be assured of getting the Holy Graille of mushrooms !!
I roasted them at about 150 degrees for 1/2 hour or so until I could feel that the moisture was dissipating....then I froze them....That amount will last me all year !!!

Glad you received them ! Mike took us to a nice spot indeed, but this morning I hit an area that I have never been to before in Gill and in < an hour we had over 5 lb.'s and that was with two inexperienced pickers with me ! I will try to preserve some using your method above. Do you dry roast them or do you put a little oil on the pan? Seasoning ?
After cleaning and sorting the morning haul I headed out for some low bush blue berries (I bet you know where). The bushes were simply laden with fruit. I gathered about 12-14 cups in about an hour and my buddy did the same.
Boo Berries,

And, I caught ~ 20 lb.s of cat fish last night (That I didn't keep). A good weekend of gathering Thumbsup
