For reasons that escape me, I have become aware of the ever increasing amount of monofilament line I find discarded around my fishing spots. On average, I will bring home 15-20 YARDS of the stuff which careless fishermen drop on the ground, everytime I come back from a fishing trip. And as I average 2-3 trips a week, during the summer, that amounts to a heck of a lot of discarded line. I don't know if they think the stuff is biodegradable or what, or if they just don't care, but it certainly presents a very real hazard to the wildlife that inhabit the water's edge. I saw a Robin with several feet of tangled line in it's beak last week, obviously taking it back to the nest to be incorporated into it. Those nestlings are almost certainly doomed to strangulation by the stuff. I know a lot of recreational anglers, and think for the most part they are responsible enough to take out what they bring in. Most sporting goods shops now have recylcing bins for old mono, but they draw the line (no pun intended) if the mono has bits of detritus attached to it and will remove it from the bin so that it ends up in our land fills. PLEASE people, recycle your old line, and pick up any discarded line you see, take the time to clean the junk out of it, and place it in a recycling bin at your favorite sports shop. It's just one less thing the people, who would take away your access to public fishing spots, can use in their campaign against the recreational angler. PROTECT YOUR RIGHT TO FISH! Thumbsup
