Got a quick call from Dave saying he made the top 10 cut as a non boater in the Stren series open. first day he had 3 fish for 5 lbs, 2nd day, over 15 lbs and that jumped him from 140th to 36th, then today in thunderstorms, he got a 17.5 lb bag of smallies from the back of the boat and jumped to 6th place! Tomorrow is just 10 boats out of 152 so he is gauranteed at least 10th place. I think he can win it, if his pro lets him fish his water!. All his fish were caught drop shotting on a shelf that dropped from 20-100 ft of water. He fished with classic contender Chris Novak from Ct today and Chris was more than willing to let Dave have his water.
They fished in thunderstorms all day and had to go to the shore 3 times and he still caught over 30 fish today and 40 yesterday from the same spot! Chris managed 15 lbs from the pro side so that's over 32 lbs for 10 smallies on a lake with 151 other boats on it. 2 other boats got struck by lightning and 2 guys who bailed at a marina and hid under an 18 wheeler yacht hauling trailer, watched lightning hit a tree which then fell on their boat!!!!!!!! He said Chris was an awesome driver going across the broads of Champlain in a terrible thunderstorm at 70 mph in 3-4 ft waves with thunder so loud, you could hear it over the outboard at 70! When he called he was just getting all his sponsor pkg stuff for tomorrows big day, he said he was still shivering from the cold rain! Hope he wins!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like he is having a good tourney. What was the entry fee? Hopefully he finds a real honey hole and brings in a huge bag on the last day to move up a few spots.

Hi everyone, thanks for the interest in me and the FLW tournament. What an incredible week! For a while there I felt like one of those Weather Channel guys they park in a hurricane! On day 3, Chris Novack got us safely back from a long run South in one of the most terrible storms I have ever seen. Heavy rain, wind, and lightning surrounding us with rod tips buzzing and fillings tingling. We were driving in the blinding rain and waves using GPS. I forgot my motorcycle helmet. Jamie Worth will post his story of the tornado / water spout encounter, ditching to shore to have lightning expode a huge tree onto his boat as they dove for cover under a large military truck. I made a comeback from 5 pounds on day 1 (boater chose a bad weed bed in inner Mallett's all day) to bagging 15 and 17 pounds of smallies at my area to make the cut at 6th. Then I get paired with Ike and the floatilla of chase boats! We had our own cheerleaders! He put me on largies and I had to do a complete shift from the smallies. With 3 minutes to go near the ramp I got my largest fish, 3-6 for day 4 on a Spro Frog. Ike is a machine, wastes no motion or time. He shared tackle, gave advice and listened to suggestions throughout the day. He "went Ike" a little when I discovered the livewell quit and the fish were going belly-up. He got it together though and none died. One chaser pulled up on our marker buoy and was fishing it. Ike grumbled to me about it but did not confront the guy. I could not have done this without the help of my day 2,3, and 4 parters and my travel partner Jim Gildea. Jim asked me to enter as his guaranteed non-boater a few weeks ago. If anyone had told me a month ago that I would be fishing with Ike in the final of the Champlain Stren Series, and beat him from the back of his boat...Come on! Below is a pic his girlfriend Betsy took before driving me back to the ramp.

winning would have been the dream come true. If my first day boater had been open to advice as he wasted the day I could have won the amateur side.
