My In laws keep a 32 foot cabin cruiser in a marina down in Deep River CT, and have had a zodiac that they used to cruise the surrounding marinas and visit "boater friends".

Well, this year my mother in law decided it was to diffucult to get in and out of, and it's been sitting in the shed at thier house. Well, after a copule careful inqueries, my father in law siad if i wanted to take it out and use it, i'm more than welcome to. He had already registerd it in CT for the year, so now i have i a boat i can use around the area, and down at their marina when we decide to spend the weekend.

My wife and i took it for a shakedown at 5 mile today, and while we didn't really catch much(just a couple gills) the motor ran fine, the boat had a couple issues, both operator and the boat itself.Smashhead

The keel began to deflate due to a leak around the threads of the inflation hole. I also realized that what i thought was fully inflated, was not even close. Boat could have used a couple more pumps from the old air pump, could not run the motor at full throttle cause the pontoons were to soft.

Came home and took care of both issues. A little teflon tape on the threads worked wonders, and i pumped it up so it is much more sturdy.

heres a pic of the boat, minus seats and motor, which is a 8hp Mercury 2stroke.

At least it gets me off the shore.

after i got the canoe, i wanted an even smaller boat i could use on my own. i bought an "ocean state job lot special" $20 inflatable and fished in it for like 2 years. i actually took it out on 5 mile too! the lifeguards rowed out and yelled at me though

congrats andy, you should take it to work once in a while now!

that's in the plans... i do need a small anchor to make me legal in MA, thinking a kayak anchor will do the trick

Every boat on water in MA requires basic safety equipment onboard; a life jacket for each person, an anchor, paddle and registration (if power equipped, electric or gas). Hope I didn't miss anything! Without this min. equipment, you can be stopped by the EPA folks! Depending on their mood, you could be ticketed.

First off, even with minimal equipment, the EPO's or CG can and will stop you. CG guys, with guns, simply state "Prepare to be boarded." So yes, be prepared for the worse. Might want to add a whistel, and a can for bailing to that list also. Be safe and have fun.

I do have everything but the anchor. Gonna head out to buy one tonight.

I have a life jacket(s), both oars, and the CT registration, which i beleive is reciprical in MA. I even threw in some flares and a small fire extingusher to be sure. It's all packed in a dry bag that i am keeping with the boat at all times.

I keep the registrations for both my boats folded up in my license holder. That way I always have it with me when I'm fishing.
