Just got my new issue of BoatU.S. magazine today. They had an article on the ethanol mixed gas and the problems in can cause. If you have an older boat with a built in fiberglass tank you could be in BIG trouble. It seems the stuff reacts with the resins in the fiberglass and leaches them into the gas weakening the tank and gumming up the whole fuel system and motor. This build up has ruined a lot of engines by bending push rods and clogging intake valves, etc. They say if you have an older 2 stroke without oil injection it will affect your lubrication because the ethanol absorbs water and lessens the oil mixture raising motor temp and increasing internal wear. They say 4 strokes fare the best because like a car they can burn the water ethanol mixture without damage. You will have to change your fuel filter more often though. They say the best remedy is to see if you can adapt a water separator or filter into your fuel line. they also say you shouldn't leave the gas in the tank for long periods of time because this will allow it to absorb more water. I will bring the article with me to the get together.
