Just got back tonight from spending two days up in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. It was my first time ever climbing Mt Washington and Im sure I will be returning again. My Uncle and I started at Crawford Notch around 9:00 a.m Thursday morning and made it to Lakes of The Clouds by 2:00.

The following morning we awoke early and hiked 1.5 miles up the mountain from Lakes of The Clouds to the Summit of Mt Washington. On the way up we were reminded of the dangers that lurks in an area of the World were there is some of the most unpredictable weather.

The summit was very cloudy and visibilty was poor.

The weather at the top wasnt looking so hot and with rain on the way we decided to get off the mountain. The man at the top that works for the National State Forest Department said that this weekend they are expecting 7 inches of rain Yikes . Walking down the Mountain we came across spots that there is still snow from the winter. This is in Tuckermans Ravine:

Thats pretty crazy stuff up there. The wind is really howling and you need to be careful because many of the rocks are wet and if you slip you are in a heck of a predicament. Coming down close to the camp where our vehicle was parked we saw this waterfall. Pretty neat way to end the day and a great trip to the Mountain.

Awesome report!!! And great pictures also. Never hiked Mt. Washington before but it looks like a blast. Can't believe the snow...was it really cold at the top...I see someones wearing a fleece? Bet there were a couple of natives in that little waterfall!!!

My favorite trip was a canoe trip in the Adirondacks. Talk about in the middle of nowhere. You would canoe in little canals that fed into really large lakes...some we went across had white caps in the middle...really fun. And you couldn't beat falling asleep to loons every night! Recomend it to anyone who hasn't been up there!

The place is awesome, when I was younger and stupider we skied Tuckerman's Ravine, 1990 and 1991, with no snow on it you would never believe that it could be skied, but in April and May the lower bowl fills up with snow making it not as steep. Hmmm I wonder if I could still make it down,Smashhead anyone in for next May ski and fish trip?Beerchug

Years back they used to hold the World Speed Skiing Championship there. Those guy's were nuts! Glad you had a good and safe trip. My son is going up there next month. It will be his second trip up the mountain, he climbed it a couple years ago and they are taking a different trail this time. Did you go see the Basin and the Flume while you were up there, they're pretty cool also.

Tacoma: The weather wasnt really that bad. At the top the temperature read 54 degrees but it was the 40+ mph wind gusts that made it a little chilly. But when you go hiking and you are carrying 25 pound bags you sweat alot. I dont think the streams up on the mountains would have any fish in them unless someone put them in it. There are a lot of waterfalls on these streams and making in upstream would be quite difficult. Down at the bottom of the mountains there are some great fishing spots from the looks of things. Many people were out and about fly fishing along the roads.

Fishstory: My uncles best friend skies down Mt Washington every year. The guy is crazy haha.

Noresman: Your son will have a blast. Hopefully when he goes up the weather will cooperate a little more for him than it did for my uncle and I. I don't really know what you mean by the basin and flume but if you mean all the avalanche shoots then yes.

Ever been to the Grand pitch in VT? that little trickle of water, that is about 50*, has a ton of little brooke trout in every little pool that is bigger that a foot and a half wide. Most likely, it did have little brookies in it. The little tricke of water at the grand pitch is not stocked. It was kind of cool to see the little guys in the clear water.

(more like a raging tricke of water, with about a 70 foot water fall at the widest point, wich is cool because the pool below it is 70 feet deep, and you can see right to the bottem.)

cool pictures, are those graves in the background of you standing at the summit?

No, I believe it was just a trail sign. There were however a few white crosses which marked a grave site where someone less fortunate passed away.

Went up there about thirty years ago, took the cog railway up. Socked in, I guess the visibility sucks 9 days out of 10. Mt. Greylock is closer, and you can fish the Deerfield the same day. Or the Hoosic.

Awesome post and great photo's I am hoping to make a trip up there this summer with my wife. But I think that since I'm gonna be with her I take one of those "my vehicle climbed Mt. Washington" bumper stickers.

Fisher, Im sure you will have a great time either way. Instead of driving up you could always take the Cog Railway. It is a little pricey (I believe $57 per person) but everyone needs to experience it once in their lifetime. They have discount days available also. Good luck if you decide on taking an adventure up there.
