One question...how do you catch Carp?

I was at Bartons Cove the other morning and as soon as I put in I saw tons of splashing and fish coming out of the water. My first thought was, Bass, and I was excited as I headed towards the fish frenzy. Well when I got into the middle of the frenzy I realized these fish were much larger. And soon came to discover that I was in the middle of Carp heaven. They seemed to be chasing each other, each one being paired up with another. Just a wild guess but it must be time for them to spawn? Anyways I threw everything in the tackle box at them and couldn't catch nothing. I went up river and came back around noon and this fish frenzy was still going on. They seemed to concentrate themselves in the weeds. It was really neat to see and would love to try to catch one!

Tacoma heres a good site that can assist you in catching some nice big Carp. I have never fished for them, but I've seen a few anglers catch them and its quite the battle.

A guy I work with makes a paste bait out of corn flakes and strawberry jello. Sounds wierd to me but he swears by it. When we were kids we used to catch them on bread balls.

Catching carp is easy once you learn. Two methods, bread or corn, Tiger Nuts ( Chufas) work very well too. Most American angler use the bread theory which is too use a Hook from a size 4 to a 6 thats is really strong and wont bend. Take a peice of wonderbread, pull the crust off and then make the rest in two halves. Take one of the halves and fold it in half. Then put the hook on one side and roll it over to the other covering the hook with slight pressure so the bread is not loose. By the time you are ready it should look like a TP. Also use a split shot or small egg sinker if using a swivel and a rig.

When using corn, you want to tie a hair rig. You can find plenty of illustrations and directions online. Put two kernels on the hook and three on the hair. The point of the hair rig is presentation and it will automatically hook the fish one the food has been sucked into the mouth.

Toad, lmao tiger nuts are not sold locally. You can get them at some spanish food stores under the name of chufas. They are smaller then the normal ones but you will need to prepare them which would include boiling and flavoring them. You can get them here www.wackerbaits.com (http://www.wackerbaits.com) and all other carp baits.

Yote, not sure what carp baits you are referring to maybe the Berkely powerbait for carp is a waste of money because it barely works if you want instant results. The other bait I think is Uncle Josh which is basically a paste that is made of cornmeal and a few other things which makes a good doughball but never used it. What do you typically use for carp bait? There are so many concocsions.

A few years back I read an article about carp fishing where they "swore" the greatest thing was crushed up bran flakes, wet with strawberry soda, just to the point where it made a good dough ball. Tried it. Carp swam right by - LOL. Ended up eating more of it myself than fishing with it - tastes pretty decent when you out bank fishing! So much for swearing! I caught one on a spinnerbait once though and I know they like Senkos too :)

Like corey said there are so many different types of baits to use while carp fishing. Personaly I cant tell you what works the best. I'd say it depends of the mood of the carp. Just the other day I was fishing with Corn and boilies and blanked for about an hour and a half before. I decided to throw the bread on the hook. I got instant resluts with 3 carp in less than a 45 min time period. Also theirs alot of experimenting to do. I think different bodies of water sometimes reqiures different baits for the occassion. It never hurts to bring your arsnel of baits and give em hell.

Mood is a definite observation for carp baits. If a carp is surfacing the water you will want to free line bread with no weights. Just cast it out and pull a little line off till it drifts over to where the carp is. Eventually he will suck it down like a cold beer and then set the hook. Whammo!!!

Bollies are awesome, there not messy but they do get expensive if your into buying them. I have quite the variety but best to use bollies when targeting big carp. Its almost that time folks so please be patient for carp reports. I have a lots of goals this year and I wont dissapoint anyone on my reports. Stay Tuned!!!!!

It sure sounds like it. Does it show any pictures? Boilies are little balls like 1/2 inch in diameter. They are all different sizes, colors and flavors. Like corey said they are best for targeting large carp.

Basically bollies a can be made anywhere from a simple to difficult recipe. To make theses you will go through lots of trial and error before getting it down. During the year carp will react differently to mother nature as do other fish but in regards to there feeding habits and they change there diet as well. When you make a bollie, you want it to consist on either a high amount of carbs or protein. With a high amount of carbs it will stir them to compete for food or just get really hungry. The protein ones get used to help produce size of the carp. This is why they like bread so much, very high in protein.

To make them you have to separate 2 things. Your dry mix which is all your supplements and your wet mix which is your eggs and flavoring or other wet supplements. Then they get combined and make a nice doughy substance. When its doughy enough so that its not cracking or too soft there are several ways of the making the balls. You can roll em by hand or you can use a bollie machine to save more time and make more then by hand. After they are rolled they are bollied for about 1 - 3 mins or however you prefer. Once they are bollied they get to be a better solid so they dont fall apart. After they are bollied put them on a dry paper towel and let them sit out for a few hours to dry. Then put them in a ziplock bag and put them in the fridge if you are using them the next day or the freezer to preserve them. You can buy bollies but they do get exspenive but they last and most of them are shelf life.
