I fished Ashfield Lake this Wednesday (15" of ice) and was trying for trout. They stocked alot there this fall due to the high waters of the streams and rivers. Much to my dismay I ended up catching only pan fish and a bunch of pikerel. Had a great time but wanted to catch trout! The lake is only about 25' deep at its max and is not very large in size. Any tricks or advice would be great!

Ive only caught one trout through the ice and that was last year. I was ce fishing on Congomnd by the point behind the brass rail restaurnat where it really opens up into Notrh Pond. I was jigging a swedish pimple tipped with a mealworm. The water was prolly 18 ft deep there. Ive seen other people cathc trout there too.

try fishing just under the ice about 2'. use a clear mono line and down size your hook to a size #4 or #6 and use small to medium shiners. we used to catch a lot of trout this way at greenwater pond along the rocks by the mass pike.
Good Luck

i agree the best way is close to the ice with a shiner, also look fo a small stream coming in nearby

I was jigging in about 7 feet of water with meal worms. Caught three nice rainbow trout. On 2lb. test they felt like monsters...lotta fun!!! Also caught a bunch of Bass and some pikerel. See the pictures of the day on www.maanglers.com (http://www.maanglers.com)

also try fishing in 2-4 feet of water at a sandy beach i have heard that the big trout cruse along the shallow sand looking for food
