I am going to the carribbean sun and fun within the next couple of weeks in Mexico and was wondering if anyone has ever surf fished Cozumel, or Belize?

I have a full schedule of other activites but during some down time I was looking to wet a line and maybe get lucky with some southern fish. Has anyone fished the beaches or inshore reefs around these areas? Any info would be appreciated.

If it comes down to it. I might just jump on one of the many Charter Boats and do some trolling. Fishing1

Fisher,

Don't make the same mistake I did when I went to Cozumel, we had taken a cruise and were docked for a full day in the Coz, some guys from the ship had planned a offshore adventure in advance. When arriving they were picked up and within 1/2 hour they were fishing for marlin, sailfish ect..The fishing grounds is like two miles from shore where the water drops to thousands of feet deep. These guys caught a ton of fish, I saw pictures and was so mad that I didn't do it. At the time you could do a half day for $400 and you fished for 4 hours. Save your $$$$ and do a charter!

As far as fishing from shore, make sure you bring a surf caster " again I didn't" you can catch all kinds of stuff from shore Bonefish, shark, palometa, ect....

Good Luck.......

Thanks for info I plan on bringing a one of my surf rods with a variety of lures. I have been joking with my wife about trolling off the back of the cruise ship when we were at sea. At first she believe me but when I told her I would have to tell the Capt to slow down when hooked up she new I was joking.

My wife has made strick plans for this trip for me so I am limited on the amount of fishing I can do. I really want to try one of the short four hour charters. If I get the time and the nod from her I'll be like a kid in the Candy store. There are a couple of people that I've already been in contact with so theres a good chance at something in the making.

But I finally got the nod to go ahead and book a trip. Although its not in Cozemul Mexico maybe next time I spoke with a Captain in Key West who seems to be pretty infromative and has a good sense of the local waters and what my wife and I are looking to hook up with. That will be kept secert until I return to Massachusetts.
