Update: Hampton Ponds Association Bass Tournament
Date: July 22, 2006
Registration at the ramp at 5:00 am. Fishing from 6 till noon.
$10.00 per person. Additional $5.00 lunker pool
BASS rules apply (no live bait)
5 fish per boat, whether it's 1-2 or more anglers. That's to keep down overcrowding live wells and killing the catch.
Pay out is a 50/50 split with the assoc.
Pay 1st and 2nd place
Lunker pool is 100% payout (1st-60% 2nd-40% {I believe})
The usual round of lies and sob stories follows the weigh-in, which is usually at the old beach, the one you go by as you head to the island from the ramp.
All in all a decent $10-$15 investment.

This is a free derby, meaning no entry fees. Fish entered must be caught by hook and line and measured and weighed at a MarineFisheries-certified official weigh station. All entries will receive a derby pin and at the end of the derby year, trophies will be awarded to anglers who landed the heaviest fish in each species category. Winners are chosen in three divisions - men, women, and juniors (age 15 and younger). There is also a "Skillful Skipper" award, which is presented to the captain who has three derby winning fish caught on their boat. Last year 44 anglers were awarded engraved silver-plated Paul Revere Bowls. The awards ceremony takes place in early February at the Eastern Fishing and Outdoor Expo in Worcester, MA.
One state record (http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dmf/recreationalfishing/saltderb.htm#records) was caught in 2005: Spanish Mackerel.
The 2005 "Skillful Skipper" Award goes to Captain James Walsh. During the year, three winning fish in the Massachusetts Saltwater Fishing Derby were taken aboard his boat, the "American Classic."

With 26 years of catfishing under our belts, we have learned many things. The most important of these is to give thanks where and when it is due. For many years, the "Catfish Man", Don Partyka, has been the pivotal link to making the "derby" the wonderful event it has become. This year, with all that goes on in his life, Don has decided to hand the chairmanship down to his daughter, Lisa Hatten. He will stay on as an advisor, passing on his vast knowledge and experience. As always, this is an American Legion Post 351 family event with all of the proceeds staying in the community to help those in need. Don's vision 26 years ago has created this wonderful event which we will proudly carry into the future.
We all want to thank Don for his service to his country, Post 351, and to the Catfish Derby.

Special Olympics Fishing Tournament
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
The event is August 12 and 13, 8-12 each day with a BBQ lunch at 12 both days, at the Quabbin Reservoir, Gate 8, in Belchertown.
The event is part of our Special Olympics August Tournament in which our athletes, either go out in the Reservoir or fish from the shore and they receive medals for largest fish in a variety of categories.
We are always looking for interested boat captains to take the athletes out on the reservoir for the morning. Also we are always looking for more athletes to join the program and take part in the sport.
Interested boat captains should contact Art and Vicki Minor at 413-283-7733.
