shad over the holyoke dam

What happens to the shad after they have been lifted over the dam? Can you fish them above it, and also, do they return back down river after they do whatever they do?

Some of them like it so much here in the valley that they just stay....I heard one of them started a seafood restaurant.....and another one, he was so slippery he became a lawyer !!!!

You just can't keep a good shad down !!!

i have never heard of anyone catching a shad above the dam, but thats not to say that it hasen't happend.

They lift a few hundred thousand over the damn and they can go into Vt, which they do! go to the sunderland bridge and walk over it and look down, you will see thousands of them in a week or 2. Also at the base of the rock damn at the turner falls fishway, they stack there, another spot is the redrock turn in North Hadley. The shad are everywhere!
