The 4 of us are in the wood's at zero dark thirty. It's darn right nasty out with the rain and the fog get the rain gear on and off we go to our own little hot spot's .I get a call around 10ish were are ya bla bla bla meet me at the truck we'll go get a hot drink sounded good to me.On the way to a ma & pa store that wasn't to far away from our new huntin spot we discussed what we saw at day break. We both saw a lot of run's and a few scraps neither one of us saw any deer.On the way back in we saw this in a side yard look close you can see a black cat eating out of his dish not more than 5 yards awayGrinning1

Seeing how this spot was new to us we decided to do a little road patrol while haveing a coffe just in case someone shot a deer we'd have a clue.Got back in the woods around 1ish i head back to a ravein and sat the rest of the afternoon out in a quick home made ground blind out of pine branch's.At about 3 thirty or so i was watching these 5 doe's for the longest time i couldn't beleave it when they came within 50 feet from were i was sitting .I'm guessing the scent from the pine branche's was covering my scent anyhow i didn't see a buck any where until a took the second pic the flash must of caught him just right he was gone in a flash but i did get a peak it was either a 6 or 8 pointerSmashheadSo all in all i saw 5 doe's 1 buck brother saw 3 doe's not bad for being in a new areaThe other 2 guy's we went with saw nothingCry1Tue. my brother and i are headed to townsend too fill some doe permits

Got in at o dark thirty, myself and about 6:20 i have a doe running up a stone wall behind me so i turn around and let her rippppp. abd before i got the barrel of the gun back down from the recoil the deer was gone. So i stood on a stump next to where i was standing, and i had ended dropping her in her tracks a double lung and hit the spine. I know its worthledd without pics but hey!!! And i just enjoyed a great liver and onions dinner. It is about 100lbs and i am going to check it in tomorrow night. so i will find out officaily what she weighs. It was also my first deer ever so i am still pumped, then this evening i shot at another one but missed it i had jumped it up so it was moving fast along with two others.

Nice pic's Yote! Congrats Massfisher on your first! As for me, I ended up seeing a total of 12 deer today, all does, but I think it was the same group of 3 that just kept running around me. Not too much shooting going on except for first thing in the am.

Went out again last evening, from 2-5. Watched a Cooper's Hawk for 15 minutes, that had taken a perch about 6 feet away. What a pretty bird. Saw no deer. Lots of sign and ca-ca, but they must come into the feed late in the evening. Lots of time still left.

Got to gun hunt by myself today. Since i dont have any gun stands up, sledneck was kind enough to let me sit in one of his stands. Saw nothing, heard a bleat around 430. Good to get out in the woods with a gun by myself for the first time.

Any firearm whether discharged by air, mechanical action or otherwise, use or possession by any minor who is not licensed, or who is not accompanied as provided in this section, or which is used in violation of this section, shall be confiscated by any officer empowered to enforce this section, and shall be disposed of by the director of law enforcement for the best interest of the commonwealth, after a hearing, due notice of which has been given.

Found that, and after reading some different material, i think i am legal. Chapter 131 of the Mass general laws.

I would call the enviromental police to just make sure. If nothing for peace of mind. Would drive me koo koo to be out there not knowing 100% if I was legal or not.

Maybe it has changed but like I said, my buddy got bagged quite a few years ago for this. He got lost, found a road, unloaded his gun and started walking the road to get back to his car. A GW pulled up and told him he had gotten a few calls about a youngster walking down the road with a gun.The GW asked him if he was hunting with an adult, my buddy told him "no" The GW said until he is 18 he has to be accompanied by an adult. The GW only gave him a warning (due to the fact he could see the "stuff" coming out of my buddies pantsGrinning1 ) and also gave him a ride back to his car. I will try to make a phone call to a GW I know today just to clear this up ( for my own piece of mind ). Let us know what you find out!

"Minors 15 through 17 years of age are required to be
licensed and to have required stamps and permits. To
obtain a license a minor must have a Hunter Education
Certificate or a letter signed by a parent affirming that
the minor will be accompanied by an adult while hunting.
Minors between 12 and 14 inclusive may hunt when
accompanied by a duly licensed adult, provided that a
single bag limit shall be observed and only one firearm/
bow is possessed by the two. Only one minor per adult
is permitted." Quoted from page 12 of the Abstracts under the "Licenses" section.

The way I read that (No, I'm not a lawyer, and didn't stay in a Holiday Inn, so please check for yourself) is that if someone 15 or over has the course certificate, he can get the license. If he hasn't had the course, he needs a letter saying that he/she won't hunt without an adult.
Now, remember, this is Massachusetts, so just because the law says one thing, doesn't mean you won't get hassled.
Please check to make sure that this is the correct interpretation (which I think is the same one you're under), and get the name and title of whoever you talk to, so that you can back up your argument.

Good luck!

If i can get an FID at age 15 to hunt, but i still need an adult to be with me...then whats the point of getting that FID untill i am 18? If i didnt, i could hunt with anybody with an FID over the age of 18 untill then. I think i am legal, hunting with the hunters safety course ( needed to get a liscence) and having an FID card.
