View Full Version : Mecury Outboard Mechanic Needed!

Anyone know a good Merc outboard mechanic?

I have an 04 50HP that could potentially have something very small wrong with it, or it might need the carbs rebuilt.

Engine starts and idles but when you give it 3/4 to full throttle it dies right out.

Most repair shops are obviously booked out and I will miss most of the season if I can't get good mechanic on the side.

Thanks

Sean

Give Saunders Marina a call he might get you in. Anytime I've called there he's always made room. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Sean,

Before you go spending big bucks on a repair try these two things:

1. Check all connections from you gas tank right to the carburetor to make sure you haven't got an air leak during high draw in the lines.

2. Start the motor, and while it is running spray carb cleaner and plenty of it into the intake while trying to goose the motor upward. You could have just a little bit of crud in the carb which can really make for not running at high speed.

What you are experiencing for the problem could be one of these things.

One other thing is to remove the carb, and take it apart, soak in carb cleaner overnight. This requires a little more mechanicl ability but it really is not a difficult job as long as you are careful.

Check make sure gas line is not kinked (sharply bent) when this happens you cannot get enough gas to the carb. causing motor to stall.

Send "Roccus" on my site a PM. Joe is a heck of a mechanic and he will treat you right.

Thanks for the information guys.

A friend pulled some strings for me and the boat is being brought to a shop in the morning (a fary cry from the 3 to 4 weeks it was going to take).

I did take apart the carbs and they were really pretty clean. One bowl had a little varnish in it and another had a tiny amount of white powder (very very small amount in one little section)

Did notice that one spark plug was wet with fuel after running the boat for a while.

Anyway I really didn't want to miss this season (I missed the entire season last year) so I want to make sure it gets fix right and completely.

I only hope that when it comes back from the shop it will have been fixed correctly.

And hopefully you'll have enough money left to take the boat out and enjoy it!
