i'm looking for some decent brand of "pocket fisherman".

i travel new england for work and would like to have a small case to put behind my seat in my truck.

ron popeil used to make something, but i'd like something i can see before i buy.

thanks in advance!

Instead of a folding or telescopic pole why don't you just get an ultralight. I have a 5' 1-piece ugly stick I carry almost everywhere with me. If you have a full size truck it will fit behind the seat nicely. I keep mine in the work box on my truck along with an assortment of spinners.

Don't know what you want to spend but Orvis has a "Frequent Flyer' multi-piece outfit with a rod and reels all in a kit - about $ 350 - not cheap, I know, but top shelf.

i stopped at orvis in avon ct yesterday. the store was mostly filled with pink and yellow polo shirts.

there was a small section in the back for fly fishing, but that was it. it was like walking into the gap!

i'm not really into wearing pink polos when i go fishing.

catalogue sales maybe? i should have asked for a catalogue before i ran out of the store.

I have never found a collapsible or multi-piece rod that I found acceptable. They come undone or loosen at the very worst time. This can lead to unintentional pollution of our waterways as I hurl said pole in to the body of water.

My fishing buddy and I have solved this problem by purchasing inexpensive mid weight two piece 6 foot rods and a dependable yet inexpensive reel. It breaks down to less than three feet long and if you remove the reel and store it in the glove compartment, it is a minimal diameter. It stores easily in the back of my buddies micro Toyota cab. I carry two spools, one 4 pound for trout/pan fish and 12 pound for just about every thing else.

The rod is a mater of both personal choice and what we can tag sale etc. For the reel, we chose the Mitchell 300. A good, all around reel that has done the job for years and years and by using the same reel, we have interchangeable parts as well as flea marketed several donor reels.

Also, I carry a micro-mini tackle box with bare minimum hooks, sinkers, and go to lures along with one of those key chain style multi tools. Takes up almost no room tucked beside the rod behind the seat.

Hope that helps,

Fly tyers should check out this site also, they list materials for all the patterns they sell.
