Any opinions on these devices, good or bad? i.e.: Mac's River Runner or the round Prop Saver. What kind of effect do they have on performance? Thanks for any input.

That is ironic. I just installed one on my motor on Sunday and have not had a chance to use it yet. When I do, I will let you know. I talked to one fellow last year who had one on his motor and he said it was the best thing he had ever installed. Time will tell.It seems like good insurance.

Sounds great! Please do let me know how you make out with it. Thanks :)

I installed it last June and only had the boat out 3 times this year. It seems to take the brunt of "bottoming out" very well. It is nothing more than a prop shield. I do know of a fellow who had one and hit a rock with it and it tore the bottom housing right off the motor. It requires 4 small quarter inch holes for mounting. This greatly weakens the bottom flange.

Buffermop....that's basically what I was affraid of. Again, the ads are not what, in reality, it's is all it's cracked up to be. Did you experience any top end performance loss? Any performance related plusses or minuses? It will be a definite plus in any shallow river, but I spend most of my time in lakes, so I don't believe it would be "value added"....for me anyway? I just hate the idea of drilling into the plate and find out I'm sorry afterwards.

As of this writing I have not experinced any problems with it. I believe you would not benefit by it, just fishing lakes. I just the same try to be careful were I tread on the water.
