Got out this AM, dark, walked thru overgrown farm area to some fields. Called here and there........nothing. Glasses a huge crop field saw again......nothing. As we made our way to the edge of the field, a huge Tom, all the way across the way, caught our movement and hi-tailed it back into the woods. Set up, and did manage to call his two hens and a jake into range. Hens left the field and roosted into a tree. Hello, it was 7:30? Jake disappeared into the underbrush. The Tom very did show, or gobble back. At 8, we left for work. Did see a ton of bunnies, three really big racoons, lots of tweetie birds, some ducks, and the three birds. Was an exciting hunt. Maybe try again Thursday.

Tried a new area Thursday AM. Arrived a little late, one bird of unknown sex was already in the ol' corn field. Of course, it ran off upon seeing my truck. Did the usual run-n-gun tactics throughout the area. Nice soft woods and fields, but no responces, and no birds. Oh well, it was a gorgeous morning anyways.

Hit the field this morning early, did a little purring, not a sound. Sitting in a Quick blind makes moving really easy. Had the bow, left the cannon home. Started to cackle some at sunrise, again nothing. Motion to my right, saw a nice hen strutting my way. Bird went right past the blind, no Tom following? Left for work at 8. Could the birds be nesting already. Are the Tom's off smoking a cig somewhere? Seems the birds in the Valley anyways are not flocking up as usual. I am perplexed. Any help would be appreciated. Fishing tomorrow, maybe back in the pre-dawn on Sat.

I have been trying to "Pattern" a small flock of Turkey birds almost every morning. Sometimes they show, sometimes not. Always the same place, right around the same time when they do show. I've only been watching, not calling or harassing in any way. Birds seem to be oddly behaving this Spring. Was it the wet start? The seemingly constant NW winds? The cool mornings? Birds simply seem turned off. No replies to any calls, and I am not seeming any good toms. Anyways, hope to be in the blind tomorrow, I think I got this group figured out.Notsure
After I find out how to shrink the pic data down to the allowable size, I'll post a few pics I have.

I have not read much regarding the contest... are there any numbers on the board? Might decide to take that jake tomorrow if it could be a board poster?

Hit the road way before light today, I was right on time. Got dressed, grabbed my gear, and off thru the field I head. Find my spot in the wet grass, and start to set up the blind. A lone coyote wanders by, glancing at me over his shoulder as he crossed the cut field. Get inside, get all set, still pre-dawn, a perfect morning. At 5:35, I hear the birds leave the roost. Perfect so far. Soft purrs, clucks, cackles bring nothing. Not a sound. Keep up the vocals until time to get to work. Did manage to bring in a flock of geese, a few crows, and a limit of red winged blackbirds.http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb28/Unclerickers/Setupview.jpg
