Some of you guys may know me from other sites. But I don't normally ask for help to many times. I am a Police Officer and work for a State College. Approximately a year ago the Registry Of Motor Vehicles stopped issuing citations to State/Community Colleges across the state due to a loophole in the specific wording of the current law.

Without these citations it limits our ability to enforce Motor Vehicle Laws within our jurisdiction. It also hampers our ability to enforce criminal motor vehicle laws such as driving under the influence. A very important bill has been brought to the State House in Boston by Senator Pacheo of Bridgewater. The bill number is 2132 which would give us back our powers to enforce motor vehicle laws within our jurisdiction. The next hearing is April 26, 2006 a large group of police officer's from various Campus's are attending. We are asking for the support of citizens in assisting us in passing this important piece of legislation. We do have the support of some of the Senators and Representatives, but a letter from the people of the commonwealth would assist us greatly. Remember that this is a public safety issue and affects the cities and towns where colleges campus's are located. We are trying to prevent Civil/Criminal motor vehicle infractions from occuring, and without these citations we will be greatly hampered.

I am just asking everyone to please write to their Senator/Representative. It only takes a couple of minutes because Mother Against Drunk Driving has so gracefully added a link in there website where people can find the Senators/Representatives and the letter is already done, all you have to do is add in your Name,Town, and click send.

Thanks for your support and happy fishing

Thanks Tacoma,

Here is a reply that I recieved early today from Rep. Donald Humason
Thank you for your email.

I am a graduate of Westfield State College and serve on the
legislature's Higher Education Committee which heard this bill.

I support the bill and look forward to voting in favor of the
legislation at such time as the leadership allows it to come to the
floor of the House.

Thank you, once again, for notifying me of your concerns.

Sincerely,

Don

Donald F. Humason, Jr.,
Westfield's State Representative

Are you saying that if you get a DD on Campus Property, you cannot make an arrest? Do you have to call in the locals?

Where does Brian Lees stand on this issue? I was told he's trying to squash it! I believe this has been postponed until April 26th. I will put in some calls and send some emails!

When will the system work?

Keep us posted.

Yes we can still arrest for Drunk Driving due to it being a criminal offense the problem comes when it goes to court without a citation. The motor vehicle citation is the criminal complaint for this offense. We don't call in the local PD unless we need further assistance with something a little more interesting than an OUI.

Unfortunately Senator Brian Lees is against the Bill in my opinion but on April 26, we will find out for sure because Senator Pacheo has asked for a roll call to vote on this bill to find out where everyone stands. Alot of Officer's especially from Bridgewater State have worked very hard to get this bill to where it is today.

When will the system work?? Thats a good answer we live and work in Massachusetts when has the system ever worked. Wink1

Thanks for your support Fishstory it is appreciated. Have a nice night everyone.

LONGMEADOW, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - Tuesday night two-term democratic Longmeadow Town Selectman Brian Ashe declared his candidacy for State Senator in the 1st Hampden and Hampshire District. Ashe said he will rely on his 13 years of working in the Hampden County Sheriff's Department to focus on the area’s biggest problem—crime in Springfield. "I believe that, by working with the Sheriff's Department, part of my focus is drugs and alcohol issues. Springfield has a problem with crime, drugs, and gang violence, and we have to clean up the city and make the city attractive again" said Ashe. Ashe added that another main focus will be to work with fellow lawmakers to help increase state aid to local cities and towns. Sounds like a person who is interested in Public Safety.

All I got back from Bouniconti was a from letter thanking me for my concerns. Didn;t say anything about where he stood on this issue. He is just a duck and cover democrat. Won't really say where he stands on anything.

Hell I've been writing letters to every senator & representative I can think of concerning the immigration issue. I have received some very informative replys from several out of state officials. Nothing from our great senators Kerry, Kennedy, and Rep Olver. They just don't care what us commoners think. They have an agenda and we in Mass no longer have a representative form of government!

Toad you are right, people have to get out and vote or run for office. It's a pretty easy process. I have been writing to Senator/Represetatives for a long time especially on items like this and fisheries/wildlife. Remember if you don't vote you can't complain about who takes office.

I live in Town and work for Westfield State College PD. Thank you for the support on this important issue on Public Safety. Its not just college related it will also benefit the City of Westfield through enforcement of the motor vehicle laws and save lives/property damage.
