I'm a new member, I'm looking for someone with some knowledge of Quabbin Laker fishing to join me this coming season and help me finally bring in a Quabbin laker. Been trying for years, haven't done it yet. I have a 17 ft Crestliner Canadian with a 25hp 4 stroke merc, very nice Quabbin boat. Been to the big lady many, many times, just can't get a laker there. Caught them in NH and ME, but Quabbin baffles me. I have Fridays off as well as the weekends. Anyone interested?

I've had the same problem. In the seven to ten years I've been fishing Quabbin I've only got one. A very small one theres a bait shop up on the lake I'm sure you know stop by and asked the owner. I am sure he would be willing to lend some knowledge to you. Do you have downriggers? I've been out there on one or more occansions and have seen a couple of regulars hammering them.

Oh yeah, I've talked with the shop owner, lots of other anglers at the launch too. They all make it sound so easy, but still nothing. I have a couple of old downriggers, but very difficult to use when your alone. But I'm stubborn, I'll keep trying.

Thats a nice looking bass in your avatar, why worry about lakers when your catching quality stripers. Grinning1

20 horse max for a 2 stroke, 25 for a 4 stroke, which is what I have. I assure you, it's quite legal, used it a couple of years there.Fishing1

There are a couple of reasons. Most boats on the Quabbin are trolling for lakers and at the lower rpm level 2 strokes don't completley burn all the fuel mix the 4 stroke doesn't leave any oil in the water and when 4 strokes first came out not many makers offered them in a 20 hp model.

That's a good answer, can't add anything to that, except to say that I thought the MDC, and the state, showed unusual common sense ammending the regulations to allow the 25 hp 4 stroke.

Now if only I could catch one of those lakers....

I wouldn't wouldn't mind giving it a try with you. I have two cannon downriggers and some tackle. My boat is quabbin legal. The only problem is the next couple of weekends my days are pretty crazy. I will only be able to fish on Mon-Tuesdays. Drop me a p.m if your interested.
