Why don't you try some of those streamers that you tie! I used to do extremely well just trolling a streamer on straight mono when I was tying my own. Grey Ghost, Royal Coachman patterns always used to work well early in the season for the stockies.

I use two fly rods and try to match the hatch of whats on the lake or crawling around. One long line out the other short. I then run two other rods with Thomas Bouyants one silver and the other gold. One long line out the other short. I usually fish this when fishing depths of 5-15 feet. Pretty exciting to watch the trout come out of the water when they get hooked by the flies.

If the fish are deep 15ft or more we pull out the downriggers with live bait (small to medium sized shiners) and troll them around 1.5 mph. Some others use planner boards but I have yet to try it, or invest in the equipment. That is another weapon that works good because you can cover alot of water not just behind the boat.

Couple of years ago, I experimented while flatline trolling for trout on South Pond. I used two rods at the same time, but one was a 9 foot noodle rod, the other something in the six foot class. Same lures, same everything. The noodle rod outfished the short rod by 6 to 1. Been using noodle rods ever since, and I catch a lot more trout than I did before. It makes a big difference getting the lure away from the boats path.

The trolling set up I use for trout involves lead line and flys .I use the same set up in Ct. and Mass. for trout and kokonees , in Maime and NH for trout ,Salmon, and lakers and in Washington St for cohos. The method uses a fly rod , fly reel and 18lb lead line. It's simple and work from the surface down to about 25ft. If any one is interested . I will explain the set up and use.
