I went there a couple times last year but apparently was fishing the Windsor Canal instead of the actual Dam. There are some really huge carp that just seem to loaf around in the water down there. Also caught a couple nice largemouth bass and some crappie in there. I wish I had brought my camera there was a huge turtle wasnt sure if it was a snapping turtle but It was in the canal eating a dead fish. I guess the dam has some really good striper and smallmouth fishing from what people have told me. Ill have to go down there when the stripers are running.

what do you want to know? Have fished the area for 20 years and jumped the damn plenty of times in RN's jet boat! Stripers usually show up in the last week of April and so do the tons of fisherman. When the water gets low, the smart guys have chest waders, just watch out for the water rising. Use 8-10 ft surf casting rods with 20 -30 lb test and huge plugs!

That is definately a cool area. I'm sure there are a couple holes out towards the middle that MUST hold some big smallies. A 300lb thrust TM might do the trick! I've seen a big turtle in that canal and if its not a snapper its a baby Atlantic Loggerhead Eyeball Roller (Hi Gary) Dave H

Smallmouth, youve seen that monster turtle in there too? That thing is huge!!!!

Fisher16, I only hope that the stripers are coming and soon. If all is right they should be here in numbers within the next week and a half. I cant wait.

I am hitting that area when I get home for a weekend. I can't wait to pull some stripers out of there. I don't care if its only schoolie action. Fishin is fishin!

When I was younger 1977-1978 we used to drop a canoe in above the dam paddle out maybe midway and then lift the canoe over paddle out and then cast back toward the Dam. We'd take strippers then. A few people used to wade out from the Enfield side. If i recall it was quite the job wading because one had to make a big loop to stay in shallow enough water then approach the Dam. I want to say we were doing this late May June but not sure. The largest Bass I have ever seen some meat fisherman took with a large hand net off that cemet on the Enfield side.

Here is a quote I pulled off the CTF board today from Landcraftbass.

Now as for the look out I stopped at the train Station in Windsor Locks by I-91. The Amtrack Police were handding out tickets for crossing the railroad track. They were hidding out were you could not see them Whatever you do don't cross the tracks to fish. I spoke to a person that got a ticket and he told me the cop said they will be cracking down this year and not allowing this.

If I remember correctly I thought I saw an article last season about a tunnell being built to avoid this issue. Anyone else hear about an update on the tunnell project.
