View Full Version : Saltwater Plugs
Does anyone make their own plugs or pour their own weights and rubber baits? Just wondering as my friend is selling some molds and I might purchase some.

My dad made a ton of sinkers one summer. It was interesting to watch. Just make sure you have the proper safety equipment and plenty of ventilation.

i make my own bucktails and weights and i have made a few wooden plugs on a lathe
How did they end up working? Im sure if you cast them into a blues blitz then they will hit anything regardless if it looks good or not.

ypu but they beat the crap out of the epoxy that i put on them
In the past I have pured my own shad darts, and sinkers. Got a ton of lead that will probably go unused. It's probably only a matter of time before the outlaw lead sinkers because of the enviornmental impact.
I have been making plug for salt water for years. I started with a lathe , but it was too slow. I then went to using birch dowels of different diameters. First cut them to length, then drill them thru with a 1/16" drill ,rough to shape with a rasp, smouth with sand paper by hand or better a belt sander. I use SS welding rod for the thru wire. For wts use lead slugs . shape heads for poppers with drill rasp. for painting first dip in linseed oil cut with thinner.
