Jackie T I had a spoon one there pretty much junk in my book.I'd wait for a auger style one.Way back when we would weld a steel pipe to wedge work's great.

I have never used a spoon type but I have used a spoon bit to bore holes for chair rungs if they where the least bit dull they where crap. Touch them up with a good stone and they cut through the wood like shaving a pencil.

Hey Jackie ..... I have a hand auger that I used before I got my Jiffy, it's in good shape, could use some sharpening probably. It also has an adaptor for a cordless drill ( 1 charged battery = 2 holes), don't laugh, it works !!.....so what am I offered for this semi-beautiful auger ?? ( can you spell p-o-r-k-c-h-o-p ?? heh heh )....just kidding, it's yours if you want it, Jackie, it's just sitting in my shed.....and I know you'll put it to good use !

Take a 2" cold chisel weld it to a 6' hunk of black iron pipe and you've got a decent chisel. Works fine up to about 10' of ice after that it gets old fast.

Norsemand and Yote must have come from the same neighborhood. I would use your sugestion except that Kurt came through for me again. I would bet it would get pretty old after ten feet of ice (I think it was a typo at least I hope it was:) Yote are you talking about the steel wedges my husband uses for felling trees?
