I have always had luck with salmon eggs and for lures a thomas gold spinner work great!

Another thing i have had great luck with is the brown hatchery food that powerbait makes and it comes in the little bags.

nope, is it cheating to use a rod? What ever puts the fish on the hook.

Easy what you use...some stuff is illegal! An old farmers tale which has been tried before is pieces of corn. The fish love it but it is very hard for them to digest and many times it will kill them!

Its made by a company...so hopefully it is good for them. . . most of the trout i catch near my house are stockies and most dont hold over, so i keep most.
Worms, mealworms, rooster tails or wooly buggers are what I typically have my best luck on.
Before someone says it, I know that using bait will usually kill the fish, and when I use bait I plan on keeping fish if there is any chance of them not making it. I know a lot of people who get too wrapped up in C&R, but I like to eat too. Many folks will release fish that are going to die anyway, and I prefer to conk 'em and cook 'em if they're iffy.

The Thomas Bouyant Trout Killer. Here's a pic if you don't know what they look like.

Tuna you won't hear me complaining I do the same thing from time to time. The only issues I have are people who take undersized fish.

i get a lot of browns that are stocked on shiners
For early rainbows you can't beat small streamers or bucktail flys fished with fly rod, or spin rod and one of those water filled wt.s. In lakes trolled. Bright flys are good. Like the Mickey Finn
My gun club has a stocked trout pond. Kinda like fishing in a barrel when they're hitting, and there is no catch and release, but its good to head to when you want to catch dinner. I went there the other day and they were hitting on everything.
I got one with a rooster tail in 4 casts.
One with a Thomas Bouyant in 3 casts.
Missed one with mealworm after 45 seconds.
Got my last one with powerbait. The powerbait sat for about 5 minutes before I got a hit, so at least I felt like I was fishing.
