thousand acre swamp is very weedy. i would use a canoe if you have one, the bass fishing used to be great there years back. i've caught many fish 5 lbs +. i have fished bartons cove for the last 5 or so years. my favorite time to fish it is in the fall. the boat launch is very good you can launch 2 boats at a time. be careful when leaving the launch area it is shallow follow the bouys out to the main river channel and you're fine, don't try to go straight across the cove only 1-2 feet of water in many places. keep an eye on your depth finder. once you get past the bouys you have clear sailing i have found spots where the water is over 100' deep. the furthest i've been upstream is about a mile past the northfield picnic area and never had any trouble.

thousand acre swamp is a nice place. It only gets about 8' in the middle and where the stream flows in. it is covered with weeds but has great bass, pickeral, and perch fishing. Last winter i caught a prech that was just over 1lb. The boat launch is for canoes and cartops only.
