I know this is a free site but I think we may be able to speed things up. I have a wicked fast PC and it still takes time to load pages.

It's all relative to what you're used to. I have a Dell XPS 400 with Charter 10 MEG! I don't think there is anything faster out there. I'm merely stating a point that if there is anything we can do to speed it up? Look @ a site we're all familiar with....... iceshanty ....and that site loads so fast. People will post more if they don't have to wait for the pages to load.

Ice shanty also makes a crap load of money! They have lots of advertisements, and google ads. They can affored the better stuff. Were still growing.

Ever hear of constructive critism? Is this not the feedback section? I'm trying to state 1.) This site is awesome! I've met some great epople from here and think yes, MAAnglers.com will continue to grow. As with anything there are at times issues which come up and may require attention. 2.) By addressing the fact the site has slown down since it's inception, (I am one of the first to join) you prepare yourself for the inevitable, more memebers. The approach "I haven't noticed anything different" is a farse. Please accept my feedback as constructive and offer anything I may do to help.

Thanks Muskie for your feedback. I agree with you 100% about the site speed and Im looking at purchasing a new server. For now this is the best I can do so it will have to do until a vds can be purchased.

I really liked your feedback, its how the site will continue to get better. I was not tryn to put you down at all, or say anything bad about your feedback.

Haven't been here much lately, but if anything it's gotten even slower. until a new server is obtained you might want to consider disabling the slide show. Every time I click on a page it takes several seconds to read "decor-xx.slide.com" whatever that is. (FWIW I'm on a 3-meg cable and this site is just about the slowest I visit. One of the very best, content-wise, but it's cluttered and dragging.)

I agree with Matt - she's running pretty slow - and I have wicked fast, super gaming machine on charter.net. I just accept that however and try to be patient. At my age, patience is no problem :)

Yea I noticed its starting to slow down a bit too!

Looked into a couple things and found out your site is run on a server with 830 other websites!!

I would suggest calling them up and seeing what you can do about getting it moved to another server with less sites.

Thats the draw back of hosting with large companies. Sure they have tons of bandwidth but they overcrowd the servers with sites. So what if you are on a backbone if the server can't keep up!!

It has become a little slower, I'm 6 seconds between pages. Could it be the slide show slowing it down a bit or do I need a new compter?

I dont think its the slideshow since he slideshow is actually hosted on slide.com so its not using our resources. Sean, good call. Its actually prrobably one of the other sites that is run on share hosting that is slowing us down. It probably a stupid proxy or other high usage site. Ill be contacting them since I have the time. Thanks and sorry to all about this inconvenience.

I've only been on since October, but haven't noticed a slow down or speed up for that matter.
I don't understand why there would be more posts if it were faster?? I can only read so fast, and type even slower. I enjoy the site, surf it often, and benefit from the posts. Keep up the good work guys. By the way, isn't patience supposed to be one of the qualities of a good angler?

I now wait 25 seconds when I click on a link, sometimes it will only take 7 seconds or so... Its real slow, and I know of a few people that don't bother with the site anymore because of the slowness. I'm not trying to be a ball buster here and I realize you only have so much money to put into the site, but its come along way since it started, but this slowness is going to start taking its toll... Its almost unbearable for me to read the reports and posts lately...

I was thinking it could be my computer, but the other sites I visit are pretty much instant when I click on a link... Any suggestions on why its slow for some people and not for others???

I mentioned this in the mod forum, i think we should downsize the forums.

Dont want to start a Huge battle over this, its just a suggestion. I noticed a lot of the forum does not get used. Forums like party boat reports, surf fishing reports, cod/ground fishing reports, bow hunting, firarms hunting, bird duck hunting. Also Salt and Fresh water discussion. We make it very simple. Hunting section, Freshwater section, Salt water section, Of topic discussion with a general, Buy sell and trade section, recipes. What im trying to say is simple it up. We dont need a Firearms, bow, bird, AND a hunting discussion. Just what i think Notsure

I don't know if this would speed things up, but there are posts from a year ago that could be deleted, it will never be read again when its 20 pages in. I realize this will take away from the # of peoples posts, but honestly who cares how many posts you have....

I love this site but...........it is the slowest site I have ever encountered on the net. I visit sites that have free hosting and they are faster. It is almost painfull how long you have to wait for a link. I to have had people tell me that they will not visit because of the speed.

I don't think it is the number of post because it has been slow from the very start. I don't think it is the size either as I visit sites that use V-bulliten and they are much, much larger and don't have this problem.

I think it is either the hosting service or the general configuration of the site itself. I'm voting on the site configuration as there are several other irregularities: inability to cut and paste, jumping through hoops to post pictures, browser spell check doesn't work, etc.

Again, I love the site but something has to be done, paricularly about the speed, if we want to see it continue to grow and florish. Perhaps V-bulliten could help with this. I believe that they also have a web page for site managers that may be of assistance.

Just my $.02

Guys,
Sorry about this. The hosting is up for renewal in about 2-3 weeks. I'll try my best to look into another possible solution. If we get a semi dedicated server it will cost about $300 per year instead of the $100 right now. I agree the site needs to be faster and with shared hosting it will be about this same speed. I will try my best but I honestly cant afford $300 right now. Thanks

I agree it is painfully slow. It is the main reason I don't post much. It takes so long just to read what has gone on since the last visit.

One note, Deleting old stuff or consolidating forums isn't going to help. The slide show might be slowing things down a bit on some peoples machines but those with real fast machines with highspeed access it should not affect that much. As Jay has stated it needs to be switched to a semi dedicated server. Then and only then will it get faster.
