To take a boat out without any type of trolling motor on it do you need to register it? Im thinking about bringing down a 12ft aluminum boat to the Thames River this weekend and wasnt sure if it needed to be regiseterd or not if you are just using oars. I think you do need registration even with a trolling motor? My friend has the boat registered up here in MA, can I use it in CT? Thanks

Bpapi if it has a motor of any kind electric/gas it needs to be registered in the state where the owner resides. If no motor I know in Mass it doesn't need to be registered but unsure of Ct waters. If you use the eletric motor just make sure you guys have registration paperwork with you, and your life vests on if the CO's stop to check.

No registration needed in Ct. as long as no motor is being used.

wearing the life vest is a smart idea anyway. that water is still cold!!! in mass it is the law you have to wear a vest in any boat under 16' i believe before memorial day and after labor day
