Can anyone one tell me when they started closing the gate? I had a huge trip planned up there and they wont open the gates. I talked to the Enviromental police saturday and they said it should be? Anyone know whats going on

This is not an answer, but some insight on how things are cuurently operarting within your state parks.

Currently most parks are operating with a crew of 2 staff in the off season (post columbus day) there are some parks operating with a staff of 1. Now they want us to keep the gates open 7 days a week, so that means a total of 3 days where the staff is working together. now we have a major storm event, but by agency policy for safety, you need 2 staff members to operate equipment such as chainsaws. We are not granted OT to bring in staff members to clear roads inside our parks, so we have to wait until our days both staff members are on to get anything done.

Recnently there was a policy change within the mission of DCR and we are now the 1st response team for a Natural disaster (yes, before the NG). The result of this is that any work needed done inside the parks is put on hold as we are deployed across the state to help communities affected. The result once again is no work is being done inside the parks, so any damage sufferd by the park is not being cleaned up.

Now i don't know the reason for the gates being closed, but it is possible that point of access suffered some sort of damage, and the staff has not had a chance to address it.

We are doing our best, but with the very limited resources we have it is hard to keep even in a good year, and this years major storm events has set some parks back years, not even months.

sorry for a rant but just wanted to let some of you know what the parks field staff is going through.

They close it about now every year, right before gun season. I've hunted and scouted all around the base

Jeeps Didnt mean it directed at you in anyway, I was just pissed the way the guy talked to me. I got nothing but respect for the work you guys do and the crap you put up with. What pissed me off was I asked if there was storm damage and he said no I closed the gate because i wanted too. Which doesnt seem right to me.
