Muzzleloader Regulation Change Now Official

A regulation change allowing deer hunters to use a hinge or break-open action muzzleloader during the primitive firearms season for deer has officially been enacted and will be in effect for the 2011 deer season. Previously, this type of muzzleloader was prohibited from use during primitive firearms deer season. After a review by the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife and a Public Hearing (http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/calendar/hearings/muzzleloader_hearing.htm) held in the spring, the Fisheries and Wildlife Board approved the regulation change in April of 2011. The regulatory change became official when it was published in the Massachusetts Register and the Code of Massachusetts Regulations (CMR) by the Secretary of the Commonwealth this summer.
The 2011 Primitive Firearms season for deer begins on December 12 and ends on December 31. Deer hunters are reminded that all blackpowder guns used during this season must load from the muzzle.

I'm glad it only took a couple years for them to change it back.

On the same note, an FID is required next year for this type......

Where did you hear that?? I know you need an FID to buy gun powder but not to own a muzzle loader, as odd as that may be ha ha. You do need an LTC for a black powder pistol though.

Ok, heres some things that need to be cleared up.

A black powder pistol does not need any license to own or use, but if you want to conceal carry like any other pistol, you do need an LTC

If you own the new break open muzzle loader, you need an FID anyways, as these are the type that can be made into a rifle/shotgun with a facotry replacement barrel

I was pretty certain about the pistol being OK but I hadn't heard the part about concealed. Any one got a linky to MA general law section?

you also technically need an fid for black powder now. as it says in the abstracts. you can not buy (either says propellent or powder) without an fid

Not true on all break barrel muzzle loaders. I just bought a CVA wolf break barrel and did not need to present my FID, only an over 18 ID. This kind of muzzle loader can ONLY be a muzzleloader.

right, sorry. I meant the ones that can be converted, but don't neccesarily come with the barrel, do require an FID

The Tompson center encore can be changed, but i just purchased TC's Impact and it cannot,i can understand not being able to purchase one's with interchanging barrel's but i will be not be happy if i can't use it next year, that would be messed up,and as for the pistol's i purchased a Ruger old army six shot no ?'s asked. I got pulled over with it in vehicle and they did take it,didn't have a lock on it...but they had to give it backThumbsupMachineGunMachineGunMachineGunMachineGunMachineGunMachineGun
