Stuck her in the lungs from 5 yards away, When it hit her you could hear the lungs deflate. Good blood trail, were gunna go get her in the morning though Thumbsup Beerchug

You didn't have to use your doe tag for the button buck??? Good luck tracking!

My dad bought 4 doe tags. We still have 2 left after this one.

Sledneck passed on 4 small bucks today, along with a 6 pointer, but he said it didnt have the body to go along with it.

You know Buckman when I stated hunting over 50 years ago if you hunted for the whole 6 day season and you got to see a deer you had a good season. Boy have times changed. Good for you fellas and keep up the good work.

Well, that's two lost deer in a week. Jeff seems to be hitting them solid. This doe was hit in the high right side with a pass thru. We had a ok blood trail and I thought for sure she had to be down soon' but we just kept going and lost the trail. I used to have faith in the Muzzies, but I'm losing it. I'm going to crank Jeffs bow to 60# up from 55#.

Yikes...maybe you should tie some M-80's onto jr's arrows...that way the deer goes down in sight!!! A double lung shot that deer should have gone no more than 100 yards!!! And there should have been blood blowing everywhere?

Dang Im sorry to hear that guys.

I think she must have survived. She bled less and less as the trail went on. She also didnt stop or bed down any where. I think i may have hit high and missed her lungs.

Raised my bow up to the max (60 pounds) hopefully my luck continues and i might see another. Notsure Not sure higher poundage will help, YOU NEED BETTER CONTROL and more practice is the answer. Looseing two deer with suposedly good hits is not good and hard to swollow and only makes the anti hunters VERY HAPPY!! Sad1 In fifty years off hunting I've only lost two deer and that makes me feel bad .Embarassed1

I think the higher poundage will help. I trust Jeff's shooting or he wouldn't be hunting. We shoot in a 3d league and shoot in the yard often. He can out shoot me and waits for a good shot. He's not out there flinging arrows. Congrats on your incredible streak Griz and I hope it continues. What broadheads are you shooting? We use Muzzie 3 blade 100s and thay have always done the job in the past. I do not think Jeff got a pass through with either animal.

Buckjr, My advice would be don't make a post until you have the deer in hand, its obvious you didn't hear the lungs deflate because if they had you would have had a dead deer no more than 100 yards away!

I don't say this to you in a negative way, its just that every year I see deer in my yard with arrows sticking out of them, and there is nothing worse than seeing that! Practice and make your shots count.....

Good luck

I can shoot, trust me lol. I know why i have been shooting high this year. Its because i am not bending at the waist and not bending my body. I just read a article saying that if you dont do that you will shoot high.

I heard some sort of sound when i hit her, and i thought i must have hit A lung.

i think she survived. She about 1/2 mile with out bedding down or even stoping ( no little pools of blood), and a deer can bleed for a long time and survive. My dad arrowed a 10 pointer that we tracked for 3 days with blood the whole time, and a couple days later we jumped it still alive. That deer obviously lived.

But hey, wheres ur deer this year?Notsure What1

Buckman (Dad), please understand that comments like the ones above are what are giving you son a "bad rap" on this site!!! We totally support his diehard efforts towards hunting and fishing but when he contradicts himself and then decides to challenge other folks on the site...well you figure it out, you seem smart enough!

And Buckmanjr, like I said your efforts are commendable but understand one thing...If managing an area of land consists of shooting a 60 lb button buck and wounding a buck and a doe which are never retreived, then hunting has taken a turn for the worst!!!

Muzzys are great and I swear by them...I also shoot 3 bladed 100's. Don't change, they are the best!

Good luck, and remember...aim small-miss small!!! Also try shooting at your targets from the roof of the house, used to do it at my parents and makes everything more real!!!

Good Luck!

The deer I'm hunting is alive and well, and much bigger than 60 pounds. Because I'm not confident with a bow yet and instead of shooting arrows at any size deer that moves, I will wait for shotgun and make it count! I pass on the baby deer, but hey good luck with your hunting this year, and please leave the Fawns alone!!!

Jr. deserves the trash talkin, but keep it in good fun. He dishes it out, and can take it with out taking it personal. He's a bit sarcastic, but means nothing by it. People post on this site to keep each other informed and to recieve information. We also consider everyone on the site a friend and enjoy the interaction the site provides.Beerchug I agree that we should let the small ones pass but we will shoot the does for the freezer and that is what he thought he shot whwn he shot the button buck. Any deer you take with a bow is a trophy and he was disspointed when he found out it was a button buck. We had a very depressing week and a little support would help.Thanks1 There is a great archery site called Archery Talk.

I admire Jr as a growing sportsman. I have followed his posts here, and they are full of enthusiasm for the sports we all love and have GROWN to be proficient at. My point is that buckmanjr is still growing into these sports, and he's learning just as we did ....the hard way. The fact that he's willing to discuss his successes AND his failures on here with us tells me that this is a kid who is thirsting for knowledge from us to improve his skills and his experiences.

To Jr I say keep trying and keep a focus on fairness to the animals and sportsmanship.

Well, we tracked that deer a long time and she didn't go down, not sure what went wrong but that's bow hunting. I know I have talked trash to Jr about bow shooting, but that's because he is a really good shot, this has just been an unfortunate string of events and I know he is learning from it. Buckman and myself have talked to Jeff about many of the issues you guys are bringing up, and his "deer selection", and he is taking it all in. I hope that you all don't have any problems like these, cause it is no fun. We all feel remorse for wounded animals and pray that it doesn't happen again, be it know that every precaution has been put forth to insure these things don't happen......but I believe there is a saying, "Shit Happens!"

Good Luck out there!Beerchug

Agree1 Excellent post. Jeff is a true outdoorsman. I met Jeff and his father Steve a few years ago at a neighborhood drinkfest. We all started shooting the breeze about hunting and fishing and I learned they were starting to fly fish. Anyhow, they brought me out to the Swift one day and I have never met a kid so eager to learn anything and everything about the outdoors. My passion is the outdoors and the environment, I get more satisfaction out of creating suitable wildlife habitat than I do in harvesting animals/fish. Jeff was asking me all kinds of questions about every aspect of fly fishing, and I was pleased to pass on the knowledge I have acquired. His enthusiasm spills over to many aspects of his life, especially hunting, so when he comes on and tells everyone his triumphs and failures he is excited and wants to share his experiences and short comings and learn from everyone. I enjoy his enthusiasm, although he sometimes talks a little too much trash, it is all in jest, and builds the comradery we have. Humility is a trait that is learned over a long time, and Jeff is still quite young. I wish more of todays youth were like him and I enjoy passing on my knowledge to the next generation. Good luck to everyone out there with buck fever!
