Just wanted to let you know what experiences I've had with a Kodak ESP-5 "all-in-one" (printer/scanner/copier) that I bought a bit over a year ago.

This past weekend I started having problems printing documents. The black ink was coming out pale or streaked. So, I replaced the ink cartridge. Same thing. Went through all the "maintenance" procedures outlined in the manual - to no avail. Fine....

Went to their online support site Tuesday morning, while we were stuck in with all the snow & ice. Emailed back & forth to a rep and they over-nighted a new printhead to me - AT NO CHARGE! UPS had it on my porch for 9 am this morning. Now that's what I call customer service! Checking online, a new printhead for this ESP-5 goes anywhere from $50.00 - $80.00. What a great outfit to deal with. Smile1

To top it all off, the ink cartridges (actually pigment, not ink) suppose to print longer lasting photos (they don't fade colors over time) than any regular inkjet printer on the market (supposedly). And the cartridges are quite a bit cheaper than standard inkjet cartridges. This was the main reason I switched from my Canon printer to the Kodak. The company also 'claims' you get more prints per cartridge than any other inkjet printer on the market as well. Not sure as I don't print out that many photos.

All I know for sure is that it works fine and is a cheap replacement printer - if you are ever in the market for one. Mine cost me $120.00 back when I got it two Christmas's ago. A set of black & color ink cartridges go for about $24.00/set. Scans nice too. Thought you might like to know.

Guys, I hate to admit it, but I was on a customer focus group with Kodak reps for the original 5100/5300/5500 AiOs (pre-cursor to the ESP series).

I firmly believed in the direction they were going - pay for the printer up front instead of the maintenance costs of the "ink" cartridges. I bought a 5300, and had the opportunity to test it side by side against my Epson R800. I was surprised by the wide color range, given that it was only a 4-ink compared to the 8-ink Epson. It couldn't hold a candle to the Epson for fine details though, but to be fair the two printers are not in the same class. The Kodak did deliver on their lower cost printing claim, but never really hit the cents per print promise. Cresty, I hate to tell you this, but expect to replace printheads from now until the end of time with this printer. The design is somehow faulty - the printhead failure is extremely commonplace. I would expect that you will experience failures annually, and sooner if you print a ton of pictures like my family does.

I will say this, Kodak continued to send me replacement printheads for over two years, well after the original warranty was up. Their customer service is top-notch. However, I couldn't bring myself to have to wait for it to arrive - the first replacement was overnighted, the others were sent ground.
I no longer use it. It's a shame they couldn't get the printhead problem worked out. It would be a killer bargain otherwise. My $.02

Printers are just a pain in the ***, so Cresty is right to look for a reliable company willing to go all out on customer service. Sunday my all-in-one quit, no power, dead. It's a Lexmark X7675 I bought 3 1/2 years ago at Staples for $99.00. It came with a 5 year Warrantee so I called Lexmark......to make a long story short, they sent a brand new printer in 2 days AND sent a NEW 5 year warrantee with the new printer good until 1/21/2016 !! I'll never have to buy another printer again in my lifetime !
