View Full Version : Feedback Needed for Lunker Board and Angler of Year Award

Hey Guys,
The moderators on here have all been discussing the idea of creating a lunker board and bringing back the angler of the year award. I don't think MAanglers has ever had a lunker board, but we all think that it can be a fun thing for the website. A few years back we had an angler of the year award, however I think that only lasted one year.

The lunker board would probably have to be for bass (as that's what the majority of people on here fish for when they go freshwater fishing). Of course there can be other fish categories, even including saltwater. The feedback provided by members can help in determining what would be best for the site.

The angler of the year award would be great to bring back to award a member here on MAanglers. The moderators have discussed awarding one individual on the basis of overall contribution to the site. This person may have not caught the biggest or the most fish, but instead created good reports/techniques that have helped others on board. It has been suggested that each member here gets to "nominate" 2 other members (not including themselves) to be in the running for the award. Once everyone has chimed in, the top 5 members who's names have been nominated the most will be submitted in a poll. The poll can determine the overall winner.

Certainly these are just suggestions. The other mods including myself look forward to receiving feedback on this idea. Thanks and look forward to your responses.

Good idea. Maybe like LM over 6 or 7 and smallies over 4, WITH A PIC! Maybe a Lunker of the Year trophy or something.
We could continue to try to support good causes, have a couple get togethers. That ice fishing tourney on Holland lake was fun. Let me know if I can help organize something.

We never had a lunker board but the 1st year in business we had a Maangler of the year. Crazy Joe, for his contirbutions to the site, was awarded a well deserved trophy and......a big cook book with a chit load of recipes in it. Laughing1 He never cooked before he won that fookin book.

Lunker board should be easy...just set up the type of fish and minimum sizes and let folks post um up....piece of cake....just keep species to a minimum....KISS program if you will.

Angler of the year award Notsure ....not so hot on that idea. Too many variables can come into play and could result in hard feelings. If it was based just on prowess with the ladies it wouldn't be a fair contest....I'd be a shoe in! Grinning1 What1

Don't need any prises for anything either. Braggin rights and bull schit should suffice for adults. Smoke1

Just think about maybe splitting our state into two sections; east & west of Worchester. Most of the big bass in MA are taken on the cape ponds and it would put many of us at a great disadvantage - especially Toad. For him, the category should be Ashley Reservoir! Laughing1

in fact we DID have a lunker board, last year i started a big bass contest, all one had to do was post a pic of the fish, size and weight, and be caught in MASS, most of the time i was deleting posts of tiny fish guys were posting for jokes, comments questioning the weight of ones fish, useless posts, etc....etc...
anyway...in the end it was won by happyhooker, i sent him a fishing prize pack, as long as we can keep the thread to topic at hand, it "should" go ok.
here was that thread..

I love the Idea of a Lunker board. It will be great. As for the MaAngler of the year also a great Idea. I am not sure about hard feelings. This place should be laid back enough to deal with it. I never take anything personal from here and no one else should either. I hope to see something either way. Mods thanks for your hard work and effort on this topic. Should make the site a little better.

I like a lunker for all species, not just for bass. Angler of the year should be based on entries to the lunker boards, and overall contribution for the site. i realize it almost automatically removes myself from contention, since i barely do any open water fishing, and that constitutes 9 months of the year. i'm ok with that. Make a seperate Lunker thread, for the minimums, i say use the MA pin standards, which makes the fish true lunkers.

Gary,
This is a good point. This idea did cross my mind. I would hate for someone on here to feel offended if say his/her name didn't get nominated etc. The lunker board and angler of the year should be a fun thing for the site. If someone was to say become offended then it would defeat the whole purpose of having such things on this site.

I think there are many things to consider, especially with dealing with the lunker board. For instance, should it be Massachusetts only? The weight for a fish to qualify etc. I think the more feedback that we receive on this topic the better. As a whole we can work out details to make it a fun thing.

I like the Idea of the Lunker Board on all species and by Mass Pin Standards. It should be Mass only. Just Sayin. I also do not want this to get political so really am happy with any outcome on this topic. Thanks1

Thanks to those that chimed in on this subject. After reading through some of the responses it seems like there may be some issues with having an angler of the year award. It might be best to scrap that idea and focus on having the lunker board. (Maybe at a later date the angler of the year award can come back, but from the responses the time isn't right now). The lunker board seems to be viewed by all as a positive thing (and in my opinion will be easier to run throughout the year than compared to the angler of the year award). If we can still get some feedback on the species that would be great. I'm not sure if it should just be kept simple (ie. bass for freshwater and stripers for saltwater) or open up more categories as some of the members on here target other species (this would allow more people to get on the lunker board). Still looking for more feedback. Thanks

With the lunker board ,anyone has a shot to win.
As far as MA Angler of the year, there would be alot more things to consider to pick someone.
Contributions to the web site.(posting good info ect)
Contributing time for putting on events and organizing such.
Time spent fishing
Are just a few.
Just my 2 cents. Fishing1

Just take the Mass State pin weights.....shave 10 to 15% off the weights. If a catch meets or exceeds that weight it means the member can post it on the lunker board.

Just need one lunker board for all species. It would get too cumbersome for the mods to have fish categories perch/bass/striper/tuna/whatever.

One forum loaded with pictures of fish near at or over pin status.

KISS it baby!

Oh...and if someone posts up one that is in question.....we can bust his hump till he/she cries "kid fish!!!!" Laughing1 Laughing1

NO prises....just braggin rights.
