Beerchug Took a ride to one of the various stocking points that Masswildlife has visited recently. Began walking the fields at 2:30 p.m. meet up with a couple of other guys who had a pup but they had jumped a couple and weren't successfull and they were planning on moving to another spot.
They were kind enough to ask me to join them but I didn't want to travel far from home. So I stuck it out, and glad I did. I made it half way around the first field, and meet up with another hunter who had two dogs. He said, "come on you can tag along with me". I wasn't gonna say no because I was doing it the hard way. The dogs worked beatifully just about mid field on the edge the first bird pops up gets a couple of last clucks and "BOOM" and down she goes. Thumbsup One down. Dogs retrived her for me and on we marched. About three a 300 yards from the last spot dogs begin running faster in a zig zag formation, and the chase was on. The bird finally goes air born, and "BOOM" my new huntin buddy takes his first bird of the day. So far we are both one for one. We march on but it seem that the other birds had found a hiding spot that the pups couldn't locate.
Just before ending the day one of the pups runs off into the underbrush and out pops a really nice looking male he makes it half way across the field and lands. We walk over but he pops up and have no shot and goes back across to where he originally landed. We make a plan and move in slowly the dogs work the area I hear the clucking as the chase begins and the zig zags are getting faster up pops the bird and "BOOM" down goes the bird.
Sorry but I told him about the site and forgot your name, not really good with first names but Thanks for letting me in on your hunt.
Here is the final result.
