Ask me anything about Russell Biomass and I will try to get you the answer. The first thing everyone should know is that there are plans for a fleet of these throughout Massachusetts, and Russell Biomass is the demonstration project for our region. Go to www.pvsustain.com (http://www.pvsustain.com) and see "Hot Topics-Category Eight Incentives" to see the regional plan. Furthermore, people should know that in Russell, this is being done unlawfully. Russell's Zoning By-laws and state ethics laws were violated in the permitting of the plant.
Thirdly, you should know that trash and construction and demolition debris have been approved as "clean, renewable fuel" for these plants. Why are they building biomass power plants? That's simple. Municipal incinerators have just been outlawed by the voters of our state because of the deadly pollution they produce. A DEP official was asked, "What is the difference between a municipal incinerator and a biomass plant?" The answer was easy: "The biomass plant produces power."
