WHAT: Land acquisition of 212 acres adjoining Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area (WMA)

WHEN: Friday October 20<SUP>th</SUP> at <st1:time Hour="10" Minute="0">10:00 a.m.</st1:time><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
The public and media are invited to join Environmental Affairs Secretary Robert W. Golledge Jr., elected representatives, town and state officials, cranberry growers, sportsmen, and other conservationists to announce the acquisition of a significant tract of land in Hanson and Halifax. The new parcel is 212 acres and will add to the 1625 acre Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area (WMA), to safeguard wildlife habitat and provide additional recreational opportunities such as fishing, hunting, hiking and wildlife viewing. A segment of the Bay Circuit Trail runs through this property and the Burrage Pond WMA is a Wetland Bank Mitigation Site.<o:p></o:p>

Take Rte 93 south to Route 3 south<o:p></o:p>
Route 3 south to Exit 16, Route 18 South<o:p></o:p>
Follow Rte 18 South for about 7-8 miles, through Abington and into Whitman<o:p></o:p>
Turn LEFT on to Rte 27 East and go through <st1:place><st1:PlaceName>Whitman</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType>Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> and follow into Hanson (<st1:Street><st1:address>Franklin St</st1:address></st1:Street>)<o:p></o:p>
Follow <st1:Street><st1:address>Franklin Street</st1:address></st1:Street> until it intersects with <st1:Street><st1:address>Main Street</st1:address></st1:Street>. Bear to left onto <st1:Street><st1:address>Main St</st1:address></st1:Street> (still Rte 27)<o:p></o:p>
Follow <st1:Street><st1:address>Main Street</st1:address></st1:Street> (Rte 27) about 1/2 mile and turn RIGHT on to <st1:Street><st1:address>Elm Street</st1:address></st1:Street>.<o:p></o:p>
(If you pass through S. Hanson village by fire dept or police dept, turn around and take first left on <st1:Street><st1:address>Elm St</st1:address></st1:Street>)<o:p></o:p>
Follow <st1:Street><st1:address>Elm Street</st1:address></st1:Street> for approximately 1/2 mile. Note access gate on left, note Land Event Sign.<o:p></o:p>
(If at town line in <st1:City><st1:place>Halifax</st1:place></st1:City>, you have gone too far, turn around, and access gate will be on right.)<o:p></o:p>
Turn left into access road and follow to dedication site on Indian Crossway trail.<o:p></o:p>

Take I-495 to Exit 7, Route 24 North<o:p></o:p>
Take 24 North less than one mile to the first exit, (Exit 15) to Rte 104 towards <st1:City><st1:place>Bridgewater</st1:place></st1:City><o:p></o:p>
Follow Rte 104 through <st1:place><st1:PlaceName>Bridgewater</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType>Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> to junction with Rte 106.<o:p></o:p>
Take Rte 106 East. Cross town line into <st1:City><st1:place>Halifax</st1:place></st1:City>, bear left on to Elm St at a 4-way intersection with <st1:Street><st1:address>Pine St</st1:address></st1:Street> <o:p></o:p>
Follow Elm St for over 1 mile, passing by parking lot for Burrage Pond WMA and over the town line into Hanson.<o:p></o:p>
Just past the town line on the left will be an access gate into the Stillman Farm Property. Note Land Event sign.<o:p></o:p>
