Just curious, how much time does everyone spend practicing with thier bow? Do you practice from your treee stands ect???? I'm decent with a bow, but don't feel like I'm good enough to hunt yet, I have a few friends who bought bows and headed into the woods. I might catch hell for this, but I would like to see some kind of test that has to be passed before you can bow hunt, kind of like the shot gun course they have you go through!

I had several deer walking in my yard last year with arrows sticking out of them, most were in the rear.... Some people don't deserve to bow hunt!!!

I practice twice a week during the year at least. I want to be successfull during my hunt, and kill the deer as quickly as possible, hitting the major vital area's.

Its to bad you have deer like that running around your place. I know most of the guys on this board practice alot and are involved in 3D Target shoots. I think that is one of the best ways to practice is shooting at 3D's. (opinion) Please don't kill me for it. Thumbsup

Thats why we see land getting posted, and restriction of access due to a few it affects the rest of us ethical hunters. There are classes sponsered by the Massachusetts Fish and Wildlife concerning hunting and taking of animals ethically "Hunters Safety Course's both Bow, Gun". The only Mandatory one is gun.

I am not sure if you all are aware of the hunting accident that happened last year in Connecticut. Where a Bow hunter shot a DEP Officer. I just don't understand some, if your not gonna do it right don't do it at all. I have seen Fish's herd of Deer on video it is really amazing the amount of deer he has around his place.

I give you credit for saying that you don't feel confident with your bow yet. Keep practicing from both elevated and standing positions, and you'll get the hang of it sooner or later. Buy a 3D target most run around $80.00 to $200.00 dollars depending upon how they are made up. Practice, Practice, Practice. I'm on a rant I'll stop.

Join a Bowmens Club. Most have courses and stands to shoot from! My club (GreenRiver Bowmens Club) has two 15 target courses! They also have a Large platform about 25' up in the air that you can shoot down to targets. Its only $25/year membership! Me and my buddy shoot all summer long! We are both pretty confident at about 35-40yards!

I shoot nearly year round, two - four times a week. We shoot indoors at Swift River Sportsmans Club from January to early April, then at Chicopee Pportsmen's from April to july. Then it's solo practice with the occasional 3-D, hunting season, then getting ready for January again. Just picked up a a heavier bow for conditioning (61 pound recurve) but I'm still looking for a light target bow in my price range. I usually shoot a 50 pounder for target and 56 for hunting. I either have strong shoulders for an old guy or tired shoulders for a middle-ager ;-)

PS Tacoma, sorry I didn't make it to your club's 3-D's this year. Maybe 2007.

Agree1 with fisher this is my first year hunting and im ready i have practiced all summer. I think it is more of an ethics thing if u cant shoot good you shouldnt go if you can you should have free will to do so. But I think its bad when deer are wounded. A deer got hit in our neighborhood last year and It had an arrow in the hind leg...quite the miss...its mostly judgement in my opinion...Eyeball Roller
