While working last night I went roaming around with the cruiser last night and spotted a bunch of large Coyotes in my areas. I usually see a couple nice couple of does, and everyonce and a while this very, very nice racker but nothing except these pesty animals. My cousin also saw a bunch of Coyotes in various parts of the city as well. Notsure
They must know it was the start of bow season today, and wanted to get one last pack hunt in before everyone hit the woods. Question1
I am still waiting for the Furnace, I hope to have it in by tonight. Looks like tomorrow morning will be a good day to get in the woods early before the low pressure front comes in with some rain in the afternoon.

Had a little time to kill inbetween the install. Took a ride up to B&G's to see if anyone had been lucky yet. Not a single deer as of 3:30 p.m. but picked up some scent killer and a couple of extra things.
I also picked up another new area to hunt tomorrow morning. A friend of mine Aunt ownes alot of acres and has alot of deer in her yard eating her favorite bushes ect. I talked with her over the summer about hunting her land this season and she said "yes". So before I invited myself I took a ride up there to speak with her today. She was more than happy to let me hunt her land, and her brother was over and he invited me to hunt his land as well. They like vension so If I get lucky I will be more than willing to share with them. I am still upset about losing access to my favorite place but I have gained two more. I have one more stop tomorrow afternoon if I don't get lucky in the a.m., and hopefully I won't need to stop there in the afternoon.
Can't wait for 5:00 a.m. tomorrow everything is ready to roll. Thumbsup

Its in, and all is good finally. This morning hunt was quite I was in my stand 5:30 a.m. to view very nice sunrise. My new spot is five minutes away from my house. Heard a couple of Fox's calling, but no deer this a.m. may head back out depending upon the conditions later today. Gonna take a nap get rested up for the evening hunt. I have a good feeling about the area I'm in.

damn I wish I had a job w/ shift work, it works out nicely for the Sportsman. My dad does shift work and works 3 12 hr shifts a week for three weeks, then a week off, and he has about 4 months vacation time a year on top of that. Lucky guy, he's taking the month of November off....but I guess you deserve that when you are with a company for over 30 years.

Went out this morning at dark!!! As I got closer to my stand I could hear deer right under my stand! Sure enough one was bedded down and two were feeding on acorns. I then heard a noise to my right and out of the swamp I hear a deer walking...II get ready and pick an opening!!! Out steps a doe, perfect broadside shot at 30 yards...but guess what, I don't have a doe tag for that zone!!!! The rest of the deer walked up the hill infront of my stand and I was able to sneak into it. I couldn't tell what the other 3 deer were but I am sure there was a buck there somewhere!!! Sat until 10:00am and headed home!!!! Oh well, better luck next time!

At least you saw some deer this morning, thats a postive thing. Especially when they were bedded down underneath your stand. Headed back out again see If I can get lucky before the heavy rain becomes to much. I feel your pain about the Doe permit. I don't have one either and all the places I could of had one are a hour plus away from my house. I think they should still allow bow hunters to take a doe with their first tag.
Good luck tonight if you head back out.

Been out yesterday and today. Haven't seen one yet. Found a scrape and a rub on a ridge I finally got around to checking out. Acorns all over, deer can eat anywhere they want. No concentrated sign anywhere I've looked. Hard to figure but I'm treating this as scouting time for mid-November.
Three of my buddies saw deer yesterday but no shots. One saw a bobcat, about the only critter I have never seen in the woods. The lucky sob..
Oh yeah, blue jays. I could'a bagged a limit last night. They thought i was an owl, I guess.

Your right dana c...acorns are everywhere, and the beach nuts were insane this year too. It means two things 1)the deer can eat anywhere making it harder for us! 2) The deer we do get this year should be FAT!!!
Fisher16, I agree about the doe and archery issue! We should be allowed to shoot a doe like the old days! We are the elite die hard hunters who study all year long to find a spot to get within bow range of the deer, I think that deserves a doe tag! I studied so well this year that my stand is in the middle of the bedding area...which poses a problem, I cannot get to my stand! Oh well, maybe I can camp out at night and sleep in my stand and be there for the morning...don't laugh, it is totally an option...I sleep like a baby in the woods!
Good luck if anyone goes out in the rain...and remember make a great shot because the blood trail will disappear fast!

I won't laugh, I found a bedding area today in one of the fields. Lots of tracks, and matted down grass that normally stand three feet tall, bunch of areas that were matted. This is the area I hunted this afternoon, might be back tomorrow night.

Not sure about out your way, but out here in Western Mass there are a ton of acorns this season. I think it was last season or the season before we had barely any.
Glad to see them start to fall out your way seems like you pick your stand location in a good spot. Hope you are successfull in the coming months. Good luck and hunt safely.

Not today came home empty handed. We will have to see what happens the rest of the week. I may just go out in the evenings until Monday, and Tuesday.
Found some more deer sign today looked pretty fresh. Will just have to play it out. The more time spent in the woods the chances go up a little of the deer crossing my path sooner of later.

The time is now! My uncles went out yesterday and they both got a look at a couple of bruisers. One was a 10 pt and the other was an 8 pt. They were just a little out of bow range. I guess the 10 pt was right on the tails of two does. I can't wait to get out this weekend, but until then I am stuck at school. Smashhead Good Luck everyone!

The peak is here, where are those Monsters that we all dream of. Its really frustrating me lately. I saw three, yes three does this morning on one of the farms I hunt close to, and no buck or bucks jocking for position.
I've seen these three Doe's on several occasions over the last three weeks. They are decent size around 100lbs plus not yearlings. Well I hope to hunt tomorrow afternoon I got stuck at work today. Have to do alot of chores in the morning then hopefully get out for a couple of hours before dark.

Saw a 6 pointer inthe stand today, no shot though. There are scapes 20 feet from the road and 20 feet from the houses. There are also some massive tracks in the mulch ( hard packed mulch) that sink in quiet a ways.
