this is my first winter with my basstracker, i'm not sure if i sould just use a tarp and build a frame out of 2x4's to hold it up, or pay for the shrinkwrap, any input? does anyone know off hand what it would rub to wrap a 17ft boat?
also, what can i put in the boat to keep out critters for the winter?
thanks

I think my dad said today it was somewhere around 8 dollars a square foot. Find a buddy with a big garage lol.

I agree tarp with mothballs. Shrink wrap can cause condensation under the wrap.

Shrinkwrap is way to expensive. That method is used alot more on saltwater boats I believe.

Bassmaster Mag ran an interesting article about using moth balls in boat storage. It said to keep any empty pill bottles, drill holes in the lids, and fill with moth "chrystals". Place in any storage areas and bulkheads for the winter. I'd want to go one further and sprinkle some in each hole in the trailer where the wires run - to keep the rodents from knawing at them. As far as boat storage is concerned, if you are willing to shell out a few bucks, there's a group of folks renting out a hanger at Westover AFB for $20./foot (boat length printed on the side only....trailer length doesn't matter). Phone: 733-4332 for details. Storage is from anytime now, until the 2nd. week in April. A bit pricey, but with my new rig I'm seriously considering it. Cheapest I've found anywhere else is $22./foot counting the trailer length. FYI.

No, Theothereric, it's a total charge (one time payment) for the winter storage season. For instance, my rig is a wide 14' Crestliner Deep-V Sportsman, with outboard still on the transom, on a 16' roller trailer. At Westover - my total cost, from whenever I put it in, until I take it out (no later than the 2nd. week in April) - would be $280., based on what it says on the side of my boat. My boat actually measures 14' 9" in length and I'm not sure how long the trailer tongue sticks out from the bow. This is what the folks told me there. I've never done this previously, so I don't know what the actual experience is going to end up being like by the time I pull her out (hopefully in March!). I'm just relaying the information I've searched out. I can tell you this. From past experience, with other boats I've owned, storing your boat in your back yard, not fully protected, is not the best option, even though it's very cost effective.

we have a sunbird i/o and we tarp it with mothballs all spread out and put it under the pervillian for the winter but we still get rodents in there but shrink wrap is very exspensive unless you no some one.i would say go to all town storage see how much it woulb for the winter. and then you dont even have to cover it.good luck. : )

Don't know where I read it but Dryer Sheets also work well to keep the rodents out. I remove the cover from my outboard and put a couple under it to keep them out of there. Last year before I winterized they had been built a nest in my outboard after only a couple of weeks. I once saw what it cost to rewire an outboard and don't want to do that.
