This is important for all sportsmen to read and pass on.
Dear SAOVA Friends,
With less than four weeks before the November 7, 2006 election, your vote's importance has seldom been greater. If the GOP loses 15 House and 6 Senate seats, the Democrats take control of both chambers of the next Congress. Based on the most recent polling, if the election were held this week, Democrats would gain 20 +/- 2 House seats and 4 Senate seats (RI, PA, OH, MT), with MO, NJ, TN and VA in play. While a November House switch is not a foregone conclusion, it's become much more likely in the last ~30 days.
Why is this important to you and isn't the Sportsmen's and Animal Owners' Voting Alliance (SAOVA) non-partisan?
SAOVA remains studiously non-partisan and highly values outstanding legislators from both parties, such as John Dingell (D-MI15), Collin Peterson (D-MN7), Jim Cooper (D-TN5), Bob Goodlatte (R-VA6), Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI5) and Heather Wilson (R-NM1). These individuals and others like them understand the animal rightist threats. We can count on them to fight for us. SAOVA also vigorously opposes animal rightist, anti-hunters such as Jan Schakowsky (D-IL9), Charlie Gonzalez (D-TX20), Rick Santorum (R-PA) and Elton Gallegly (R-CA24). SAOVA's concern is with House control and the committee chairmanships, assignments and legislative procedural decisions it encompasses. All federal legislation is controlled by committee chairman and majority party leaders. They decide which bills live or die. Key GOP House chairmen have acted as "goalies" against ill-considered animal rightist measures for over ten years. That seems likely to change.
There's an undeniable political fact of life involved here. The political action committee (PAC) of flagship animal rightist, anti-hunter organization Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) and its state level clones have endorsed hundreds of AR-supportive politicians. The majority of these endorsees are Democrats. Wayne Pacelle, HSUS's CEO, said three years ago that he could always count on 100 House Democrats' votes, inferring the issue was immaterial. While he didn’t say so, he can also count on many GOP votes.
In the past few days, SAOVA’s website at http://saova.org has been updated to include numerous head-to-head SAOVA vs. HSUS endorsee contests in fourteen states from California to Connecticut. We’ve also added the names of open seat HSUS endorsees to guide you in choosing between little known candidates. Finally, SAOVA has posted state-level animal rightist endorsements for Michigan, Pennsylvania and Washington. Wayne Pacelle is well on his way to fulfilling his stated goal of making HSUS the NRA of the animal rights movement. In terms of candidate endorsement selections and PAC donation returns, HSUS's 2002-2006 record exceeds the NRA-ILA’s in some ways. Please take the time to study the candidates carefully and support those individuals that will support you.
Understand that SAOVA's reviews are single interest efforts. We make no pretense of evaluating candidates' positions on taxes, education, social security, medical care, national security, gun control or social issues. To the degree that hunting, fishing, livestock farming and pet ownership are important to you, we offer these election candidate analyses to be combined with other, personal considerations to determine your vote. Register and VOTE! Thank you.
Sincerely,
Bob Kane
