View Full Version : Xr200
Im looking at purchasing another dirtbike or an atv come Spring to give me something to tool around on. I used to have a YZ80 about 4 years ago and sold it and havent ridden that much since. I dont want to deal with 2 strokes anymore, they are to messy and I mostly ride trails so it gets annoying having to keep the rpms high in a low gear or else it bogs down. I was looking online and XR200's seem pretty nice a little smaller but for the price you cant go wrong. I guess they are a really good woman's bike but I dont know for men. Anyone have any opinions on dirtbikes or quads? Thanks

I have a Yamaha "BigBear" 400 4 WD a lot of fun to ride. But the nice thing over a bike you can ride the quad in the winter. That is when I do most of my rideing. So if you do not mind the cold get the quad and get year round use out of it.
I had a dirt bike when I was a kid OSSA 250.

If you are going for a Quad you can't beat the Can-Am Bombardier Outlander, critics and all rave about it, but if you are looking to not spend some cash, might wanna stick to dirtbikes. As for the xr..I had the xr100 as a kid then I rode the XR250 for a while. They both were unstoppable in water, and the 250 would go through anyhting I could find and I rode it hard and fast. I assume the 200 isn't much less power so if you can find an XR200 or a XR250 in your price range get it....only thing about buying an old 4 stroke it if it goes its big bucks to fix..2 strokes are cheaper to fix but as you said, for trails the xr is the way to go. I am looking for a quad right now, preferably the Can-Am Outlander 400...but its a bit pricey. Good Luck and buy smart, not cheap...a little more money up front can save you a lot in the end when buying used.

I have a 96 kawasawki 4x4 quad and in the ten years i'v had it the only thing iv replaced is brake shoes and last year front drive shaft u joints(.KNOCK ON WOOD) If i was to buy new again it would not be a honda or a yamaha for sure they seem to spend a lot of time in the shop,One of the guys i ride with just bought a 4x4 400 outlander and that is one nice machine

Jay you forgot to mention do you have a way to transport a atv?I'f not i would would look for a 4 stork on off road say something like a 500 cc range(high way worthy) I'v had a fewwwwww bikes all types and for the money yamaha was my favorite beat the hell out of them and they just keep on a tickin.

I have to agree with Yote. A dual purpose bike with both on and off road capabilities are an excellent choice. However I would go with a more aggressive tire intended for off road use. Seeing how you want to ride trails. The only set back will be a rough and noisy commute on paved roads. This has been my plan for quite some time now but I can't seem to find one at a reasonable price. I sold my dirtbike a while back, a kx 500, and want to get back into light trail riding. Good luck with your search Jay and keep us posted.
Thanks Section12 and others who commented here. I have a truck so I can put an atv or dirtbike right in the bed of it. Yote btw I have the same truck as you haha Ford Ranger.
