It’s That Time Of Year!

Time flies and April 2006 is fast approaching and once again the East Longmeadow Jaycees are in the process of planning this year’s fishing derby.

The Jaycees are proud to announce that due to increased participation by local area citizens and businesses this event has become nationally recognized. So impressed was Dewayne Sumner (Vice President of the National Junior Chamber of Commerce) with the East Longmeadow Jaycees and the local East Longmeadow community’s support of the fishing derby, he published an editorial in the National Junior Chamber of Commerce’s magazine featuring this event.

It’s worth stating again that the positive impact this event has on local area youth and their families cannot be overstated. This fishing derby is not just about having a chance to win a prize or catch a fish; it’s a place where life long memories and friendships are created.
Last year thanks to our sponsors we were able to stock the pond with over 500 trout and 125 of them were 18"-24", we also gave away thousands in prizes for the children.
Close to 200 trout were caught during the four hour event last year, and we were able to give every child a gift for attending the derby. This year we hope to do the same, if any of you know of a buisness that would like to sponsor the derby please have them get in touch with me at, tmack92@verizon.net or if you would like to help out with the event, send me a email.
The fish have been ordered for this year, and we're happy to announce we will have lunkers up to 6 pounds going in. Its a great event for children 14 and under, the date is set for April 15th 2006. We are just in the begining stages of getting our sponsors together, but will have more info on the derby shortly. We also have a website, and although it hasn't been changed since last year, it will give you an idea and more info. www.eljaycees.org (http://www.eljaycees.org) go to fishing derby link.
We focus on introducing children to fishing, for they are the future of our sport!
