I won't swear to it but I think they bolt on pretty easy but I've been wrong before. My merc is not elec start but the location for the starter as I remember looks simple to get at. Good luck Thumbsup Let me know how you make out. I am going to be in Vt for a few days .If you would like I would be able to take a look today if you read this soon enough. PM me and I'll give you a cell phone number to call me. CHECK YOUR PM CELL # IS THERE

Mack it's a simply job 2 bolts and a few wires.Take it off and bring it to a auto parts store sometimes than can match it up for half the price.

i'm not close to being a mechanic on anything but if you turning the key and it justs spins and it doesn't come up to crank the engine, i've had this problem and a little wd 40 sprayed in plus grabbing the tooth flywheel with some pliers and moving it around might be all it needs. then try the key. if it's electrical then abort the above, trying to help.

yeah, its not comming up to the flywheel, it just spins,if i give it a little bang, it works.

wd 40 is not really a good lubercaint it's more for cleaning .

Another thing to consider with WD-40 is it is extremely flammable. Don't know if I would use it around electrical components. Maybe try some di-electric grease.

at least we know the trouble now to find the right lube, sorry about the wd, its getting stuck, old lube or grease most likely. try one of the above cleaners.

I use wd-40 as a fish attractant it works!!!!!!!!, make sure you disconnect the battery before working on the motor!!!!!!!!!!

It may not be a lubrication problem. Might just need a new solenoid.
