Ma Black Powder what do you shoot?

Does anyone else hunt with Black Powder.

50 Cal. Thompson Centerfire Rifle/ with the T/C Scope.

50 Cal CVA

50 cal CVA with 4x scope. I like to take Christmas week off and hunt black powder and ice fish. It is my most relaxing week off, food,drink,family,friends and the outdoors.

An old T/C Renegade. Came with the old 56 cal. smoothbore barrel that was so -popular- back when.* I upgraded to a 50 cal. rifled barrel a few years back.

*If you don't understand that count your blessings! You -experienced- guys will remember those days ;-)

CVA Bobcat, .50 cal. traditional percussion cap. Bought it for $50 and paid another $40 for a wooden stock to replace that stupid plastic thing.
Not top of the line by any means, but it shoots round balls nicely all day long.

i inherited a 56 cal and all the accesories from my fathers friend who retired from blackpowder anyone know why 56 went out of style? from what i hear, a lot of people had them

Thumbsup The 56 cal were smooth bores as required by mass law, no rifled barrels were allowed back in the good old days. They worked rather well within their limits useing 90 or 100 grn of the proper powder and a patched .550 round ball they would kill a deer nicely. They worked well out to about 100 yds and under..If you can not find .550 lead balls you can use .535 balls with a little thicker patch and pyrodex Rifle powder works well also.. I missed a lot of deer with my old 56 cal. I eventually got a 50 cal with rifled barrel.And still havnt got a deer with it.

I have a CVA Staghorn 50 cal it was a cheap gun but shoots good and is short and light got my first deer with it 2 years ago.

5 deer down in MA so far with it

.56 T/C No deer, a few misses, don't use anymore.
