Rem 1187 w/ cantilever scope mount, red dot optical.
Boy, you guys don't take any chance on birds, do ya? :)
I use Browning A5 in 16, modified choke and smooth barrel. Remington Sluggers print best, but not by much, every slug I've tried works well in this gun.
Backups are Rem 870 12 ga (smoothbore and mod choke), H&R 16 or 20 ga's (Smooth and modified - I'm noticing a trend) and the oddball 20 Ga SXS with I/C and (of course) Mod chokes.
I haven't bothered with a rifled barrel, as I don't see where it will give me that much improvement over what I've got.

The gun I listed is just for deer, my bird guns could be a very long list. The majority of guns I own are for upland birds and ducks, as well as some just for sporting clays and others for skeet or trap. My favorites are as follows:
Beretta 12 ga Silver Mallard for ducks & pheasant (best all around gun for me)
Browning GTI 12 ga for sporting Clays
Browning Citori 20 ga for skeet and pheasant/woodcock
Yeah, I figured that, but I couldn't resist.
This year, I'm gonna stick with the Browning. If all goes well, I'll have a bunch of safe queens. Can't see getting rid of any of them. Too bad hunting season is so short.

Tuna, somebody (Mossberg? Ithaca?) makes aftermarket slug barrels for Remingtons at a decent price. At thirty/forty yards you may not see much difference in performance but when you bench rest out at 75 yards you sure will. Me, I don't shoot iron sights worth a damn, give me a low-power scope and I step up to solid mediocrity ;-)

I shoot a Mossberg Model 500 Trophy Slugster in 12 guage with a BSA deerhunter 1.5 x 4.5 variable scope. I use 3 inch Lightfield commander sabotted slugs. Sighted dead on for 3" groups at 125 yards. Rifled barrels do make a difference, as to high velocity slugs. Remington has a 45 caliber 12 guage sabboted slug that travels at 1900 fps. It is said to be good out to 200 yards if your gun will spit them out accurately. I gotta try them.

I tried putting a scope on my Remington for a couple years. Didn't like the way it handled and took it off. I know that I limit myself to shorter range shots, but since I usually get skunked anyway, I like having my gun to be as handy as possible to make my trip more enjoyable.
If my shotgun handles like my bird gun (since it usually is the same one), I feel much better in the woods, when it feels different, it just doesn't give me the same enjoyment.

Mossburg model 9200 w/ Simmons 3-9..rifled barrel and shoot 2 3/4 Lightfields. Highly effective to 125 yards. Most deer have been taken under 75 yards but 4 were taken over 100 yards, the longest was 135 (range finder).

Remington 1100 20ga special field "modified"....rifled slug bbl, synthetic monte carlo stock, redfield tracker 2 x7 on aimtech saddle mount. I still think the 21" smoothbore vent rib bbl shoots as good as the riffled with std remington sluggers.
Also Remington 12ga 11-87 special purpose for turkey/upland/wf...
Beretta Onyx 20 ga o/U 26"bbl matte finish 3" chamber...might be for sale soon.Sad1

Well, I somewhat hate to admit to it... but I'm still using a smooth bore slug barrel without any special bullets. Remington Slugster, 1 oz. through my MOSSBERG 500 I got for a xMas gift eons ago with a Tasco Red Dot 1x power scope. I've had the gun for 25 years. First and only gun given to me by dad, refinished the stock myself and reblued all metal about 5 years ago. Gun is nowhere near what today's technology could give me - but it's priceless to me. And, there's 4 nice deer mounts on my wall to prove it's in-field value. I know it's limits, I do not shoot over 50-60 yards, but the red-dot type scopes are amazing - wouldn't deer hunt (with a shotgun at least) without one.

I use a Remington 11-87 rifled barrel topped with Leupold rifleman 3-7x32.
I tried at least ten different types and brands of slugs and found that the
3" Winchester BRI sabot slugs shot the best. I am able to get consistent 2" groups at 100yards. The great thing is that I have a 21" turkey barrel that I can swap out with the seasons. The scope never leaves the gun.
