You got it correct. It can be vary effective, used a lot of time in colder water, also for less active fish, deep water(jigs go up 1oz or more), or geting throught a bunch of slop on the surface. Just a jig and trailer. No special set up. Fishing1

Ahh but there is a special set up.I don't beleave that a ultra lite would work well with a jig & pig. Most set ups i'v seen have been a med hevy to hevy pole with 20 lb test or more on a bait caster. My two cents for what its worth Jackie T

With all the plastic trailers out now, the "pig" part of the equation includes these also. The jig is weedless with a complimentary color skirt. Normally You are trying to convince a bass that the offering is a cray(craw)fish. Short hops and dragging along the bottom.

be sure to go with the braided line, makes it much more sensitive and you can feel everything.

Yote I have a daiwa baitcaster w/20 lb on a med heavy ugly stick I use for pike would that be about right? What kind of fish do you target with this? I know you always read about me fishing for pan fish w/an ultraligh or a microlite. I drive a 1 ton diesel truck and the 3 closest ponds are Forge Metacomet and Aldrich I use a kayak to fish from. I sell soap and rabbits for income so its realy tight that is why you only hear reports from me on smaller fish.

Jackie thAT set up will work just fine for pike and you'r J&P in heavy timber and thick slop. One of my set ups is a bait caster 50# test on a heavy action rod mainly used for pike with very large bait. The only thing i would change on you'rs would be the line to a braided line and use a mono leader when need.Jackie i belong to this site because i enjoy reading ALL the post that inclueds pan fishing as well. There always interesting to read as a matter of fact if it wasn't for crazy i probbly won;t have those entries for pan fish in the contest(thanks joe)Thumbsup If i where to fish one of those ponds all the time it would be aldrich for sure bring a bass rodThumbsup P.S what would 3 bunnies cost me?

Jackie that set up would work just fine. I like the Hy-tech jigs and use paca craws as trailers. You just pitch it out to a likely spot. Let it fall on a semi tight line (Let the line bow to the water) Watch the line as the jig falls. If it jumps or moves sideways slam it home hard. When it reaches bottom let it sit a little bit. Lift it once and let it fall. Any tics, line jumps or tension when you lift set the hook. If nothing by then reel in and pitch to another spot.
