View Full Version : 2006 Fishing Goals
I couldnt find another place to appropriatley place this thread so I decided to post here. What are some of your 2006 Fishing Goals?
Saltwater
-Catch my first 40+" striper
Freshwater
-Try flyfishing. Ive never gone before and have always wanted to get into it. I know it takes a lot of skill and patience (which I def. didnt have when I was a younger kid but now I sorta have it :p )
-Catch a 5lb Largemouth

it shouldn't be that hard to catch a 5 lb largemouth. lots of ponds have them. try buckley dunton, thousand acre swamp, quabog, warner pond or brimfield reservior. you should have a good shot at any of these ponds. my personal best bass was from warner pond. i didn't have my scale with me but i did have my ruler. it was 25 1/2" long and so fat and full of eggs i thought it was going to pop when i unhooked it. i estimated it to be at least 8 lbs. my goal is to learn the river in the bartons cove area better particularly in regards to walleye fishing. ( if anyone out there is willing to share any info i have a boat and am willing to take a partner ) i caught a couple of them up there and would love to catch more.

I started my new fishing ventures there last year! I inherited a 14' Starcraft with a 9.9hp Johnson. I did well with small mouth bass as far up as the Turners Falls Rod and Gun Club! Never gone for Walleye before. Would be willing to learn. In turn I would have room in my small Quabbin Legal boat for a run at the Quabbin. Never been but am going to try this year.

my boat is also quabbin legal. 16' tracker with 25 hp four stroke. i have only fished the quabbin a few times so i don't really have a clue as to how or where to fish. i live right in belchertown so getting there is no problem for me but i prefer bass fishing to trolling around with down riggers for lake trout. when the smallies start bedding we should get together and seeing as we can both take another person with us see if we can get a couple other people from this site to go. it could be fun making fools out of ourselves trying to figure the place out.http://www.maanglers.com/forums/images/icons/icon6.gif

Sounds like a great plan! I lived in Belchertown for 1 year. Really nice area. I grew addicted to the Quabbin Resv. I actually proposed to my fiancee there while on one of our walks. I hear the smally action at the quabbin is outstanding! Gotta try it this year. Hopefully we can match up...even with some other people from the sight...really good idea.

whats the limit for motor size at quabin?

if you have a 2 stroke it's 20hp they allow you 25hp with a four stroke. your boat also has to be rated at least twice the horse power of the motor your using. for example if you have a 20hp motor your boat has to be rated for at least a 40hp. if you have a large main motor with a smaller kicker motor you have to take the prop off the large motor. hope this helps. also you should bring a pair of waders for launching your boat they do not allow you to step in the water.
at the Q about launching your boat and stepping in the water while launching your boat without some kind of rubber between you and the water.:o Once your out on the reservoir you can pee in it all you want!:D
Doesn't make much sence to me, but hen again it all goes to Boston and surrounding communities!:D Why should we care as long as we can catch fish!:p

Still in the hunt for a striper over the fifty inch mark for my boat. As for other fishing goals, get my wife to say yes to a fishing trip in Mexico while on our cruise. Catch a Mako and a thresher shark over two hundred pounds. But I won't complain if they are bigger :)

My goals are to get 6 lb large mouth and hopefully some bigger smallies than last year. I'm also hoping to get some 40+" stripers this year as opposed to the sub par year last year. Also looking to follow up last year's 250lb blue fin tuna with another larger one.

My goal for the ice was to ice a pike and I did it on multiple occassions. My other goal for ice was to get a 15+" Crappie and i was unsuccesful because the pond with the big Crappies only was frozen for 2 outings, and I only managed a 13.5" Crappie. My goal for this spring is to land a Broodstocked Salmon 5lb+ and a 40+" Striper (biggest last year 36"). Good Luck. Post your goal setting pics!

My goal would be to replace the 8 3/4 large mouth with a ten pluse a 5 to 6lb smallie. But i dont see that happing any time soon.Reason being i just got hooked on stripers this year and they were only schoolies so now i want the keepersSmoke1
