On the water by 7:00 am targeting smallmouth bass. Surface temp 70.5, warming to 72 degrees by 2 pm. Heavy fog until about 9:30. We found our way through it ok and hit several humps in 25' - 35' of water. Light thermal breezes until the fog lifted, then it becalmed. Marked loads of bait pods on just about every structure we fished. Fished with Senkos - suspended under slip bobbers and wacky rigged on the bottom. Tried tubes, hard jerks, drop shots and surface baits as well. Only the Senkos and drop shot produced. Ended up with only 1/2 doz. or so smallmouth for each of us. Two of mine were better than 2 lbs.. My buddy got three nice ones. We both caught several dinks as well. Nothing really decent however and the fish we did catch were very spotty - one here, two there type of thing. All fish released in good health - as always with us. With the "Harvest" moon et al, I was hoping for a better bite, but it just wasn't in the cards. Beautiful day however. The loons & eagles kept our spirits up. Off the water by 3 pm.. First time I've had my rig out in over 3 weeks due to some home renouvations going on. Felt REAL good! Wink1

Haven't been up to the Quabbin in several weeks now. Been too busy with home renouvations. Should be all set for now though, so I may be heading up there on Saturday myself. You want to head out toward the pass, but not quite. Start there and work you way back up toward the launch. Use your sonar and find any submerged humps with deep water directly adjacent. Again....using your sonar, move progressively away from the humps (they usually top off at about 15' - 25') until you find bait balls. Don't waste time looking for fish per se. Anchor near the bait and throw out some wacky rigged Senkos, maybe a tube, and definitely try drop shotting. You WILL catch smallies doing this. Focus on water between the pass and the island where the buoys are positioned to protect the eagle's nests. However, don't expect more than a few bass off each location. You want to move and continue to search the humps. Hope this is of some help. And above all, enjoy the wildlife & scenery :)
